...volume.
This is not uncommon and it's not restricted to VW engines.
Have a read of some of these threads for a better understanding of oildilution;

Oil on and around the oil filter housing wouldn't worry me too much, it's...
I’ve got a December 2020 Vw t6.1 kombi. I purchased it when it was a year old so I don’t know what happened in its first year but I’ve had nothing but issues with the ‘reduce oil level, go to workshop’ warning for the past 2 years.
I have been to my local Vw dealership a number of times and...
Just because the warning light doesn’t illuminate doesn’t make everything OK. If the oil is black / brown (no water emulsification) and the oil level is rising without anybody adding oil it is due to fuel dilution.
Fuel dilution at just 2% will damage an engine / turbochargers.
Have a search...
...a service I remove between 400 and 500 ml of oil through the dipstick tube to reduce it down to halfway. Initially I was worried about oildilution so I sent a sample to Miller's for oil analysis, no worries from the results.
I'm lucky my van doesn't use oil, I'm sure it's just oil...
From reading this, I would certainly want to change the oil if it has been diluted by fuel. To not do so risks excessive engine wear by the sounds of it. So why are dealers just siphoning off the excess?
@Ian Watt, what did VW assist say?
Have a Search with ‘dilution’. Plenty of content on the Forum.
If your oil level is rising without anybody adding oil there are two possibilities:
1. Coolant contamination - emulsified oil, obvious.
2. Fuel dilution - not obvious at all and with a 2% diesel contamination limit before accelerated...
Don't know the details about A6 but e.g. T6 doesn't finish DPF regen at standstill...

Sounds like excess fuel, if it’s on start up most likely a leaking injector.
The excess fuel will be washing the bore, diluting the oil, clogging the EGR / induction and damaging the DPF. Don’t run it in this condition.
A garage should be able to diagnose this.
I had this oil too high issue over a year ago whilst on a 200 mile trip up north to have my solar panel replaced. Following the advice on that youtube video above, I bought a £10 siphon pump from my local Karparts place and pulled out 400 ml of oil through the dipstick tube. My oil too high...
Miller oil analysis, about £50, will give the fuel dilution and other contaminants in the oil. Data entered in the test info’ must be accurate.
Syringe and 1.5m of hose that will fit down the dipstick is needed to take the sample.
You don’t, safe to say that there will have been some dilution and as 2% is the safe limit who knows. Fuel dilution will probably kill the turbocharger and oil control rings before anything else.
If the top end had excessive wear it would be noisy all the time and probably more so when the oil...
You need to check the oil level yourself when you get this warning. If the level has risen, then your oil is being diluted with diesel, which is not good for the engine.
If the oil level has not risen, then it’s more likely to be a software issue.

I can’t see a failed DMF causing this rough running, it’s a misfire, if there is any DMF noise it’s as @mmi stated in post #10.
My advice is not to run the engine at all in this condition, I don’t see much improvement over the length of the posted video. If an injector is delivering fuel without...
I had a JLR product that I had to service every 6 months because of oildilution, so not just VW’s. We gave up in the end, and embraced 1 x dealer service and 1 x non dealer oil change a year.
Really hope I don’t run into this with the 6.1 as well!
In all seriousness it's more like an onion bhaji smell and when you're hungry makes you want to eat the seat cushions.:geek:
Regarding the diesel being dumped into the sump it's worth bearing in mind the engine oil is being diluted so not safe to simply decant the resultant syrup as eventually...
