Here’s another thread with the same code and showing the freeze frame. I think it confirms P046C00 specifically refers to detected difference in the EGR valve specified and actual position.

Yeah i have no DPF issues and have no intention of making changes there, only reason sending me to blank and map the EGR is that the garage i spoke to told me that it may be a better option that exchanging the EGR given how expensive and labor intensive it is..........
...etc just to see if that has anything to do with it. I was initially convinced it was DMF, then I was sure that it was something to do with EGR (it started intermittently about 6 months before my EGR packed in) but it's still there, It does seem to be less frequent following the EGR...
EGR delete and remap at 29,654 miles in August 2021.
Van now on 38,900 miles, no issues, passed 3 MOT's since.
Did it because it cost £250 and a new EGR would have been over a £1000 and would have needed replacing again eventually. Also not happy about all the soot and sh1t being pumped back...
Got the same with my 20 plt. Vw said poss egr or software. Egr company said it was fine but sensor was reading 70mm when should be 30mm. Was intermittent, now constant. Do want to update as have a remap on it
...It’s a non ad blue so I assume euro 5 and that’s the reason I’m not seeing it.
Just pricing up a remap for it and options are around $1300 for egr delete (I think this is just remapped out of the system) and approx $2500 for remap, egr and dpf delete with the dpf being gutted.

❆❆ EGR normal cooling and EGR cooler bypassed
From 0 to 200 seconds reported EGR position > 0% thus EGR cooler bypassed. This cooler bypass happens always after engine start, even in summer conditions. [EDIT: 20.4.2024]

Please use VCDS to run engine's built-in EGR flow test - details below.

A quick Google showed a guy on here with the same issue, where it requires nrw EGr and pressure switch and local garage agreed. So replaced EGR and oil pressure switch. Problem then solved and I've done 6k.

Good afternoon,
I've been reading a lot on here about the EGR and the costs. My Carista has shown an issue for a few weeks now and I don't have the funds to get it replaced etc. So when I discovered the term 'egr delete' and read up about it I thought this may be the the way forward.
So does...
...a second vehicle and instead of being thrashed everywhere are pampered and driven gently whereupon they die of clogged arteries.
I've just had my EGR flushed a second time and now drive the beast at 3,000 rpm in second gear everywhere to keep the 5hit flying through the EGR and DPF at 30,000...
chopped it up to see inside.
it was clogged solid with carbon and gooey stuff.
no chance a flush was going to help. - a new unit will always be needed when it gets that bad.
it ended up in the bin.
