...keep it a little cooler.
You don’t need Mega fuses - Midi will do just fine and are much, much smaller.
16mm is fine. It fits through the grommet from the engine bay and easily fits under the carpet. Get the extra flexible version (12voltplanet or Simply Split Charge both do it) to make...
...block to the install for the diesel pump (even thought the autoterm is meant to be the quietest) and also used a large diesel heater exhaust grommet in the aluminum heat shield rather than use the OEM opening to provide further support to the exhaust pipe on our wonderful corrugated gravel...
If the base van has barn doors a popular route in is via the grommets filling the punched holes were the tailgate hinges would fit.
You may be able to use that and a curly cord to connect things without drilling any holes as this company does...
...my charger under the floor in the void where the o/s step would have been then run the cable out through a hole in the van, through the void under the underbody tray where the diesel heater is fitted and up through the big grommet under the driver’s seat. That’s the route for most of my cabling.
...gap below the panel to give some ventilation. Cables route through a Scanstrut gland outside the tent and route into the van via the cable grommet on the top left of the tailgate. Really happy with the result. Giving 150W ish with the roof down at 4pm, so not direct sun. The Scanstrut is...
You can use 5Q0 or 2Q0 radars with new plugs.
2 plugs: 1J0974714
Note that you will need VCP or ODIS, if wrong dataset is uploaded on 5Q0/2Q0 radars.
I soldered resistors behind the taillight and rubber grommet.
2 resistors: 1W 200Ohm
Connection of 5Q0 and 2Q0 radars:
...section large enough to allow the new cables to sit in place so that the cover plate doesnt squash them)
were aiming for this OEM grommet in the bulk head that gets us into the cabin area. . .
a few bits now on the grass. . . . think I'm asking for trouble here. . .
next up...
There’s a large bung underneath each cabin seat, but as you’d likely have a rubber floor in that area, I’d be surprised if that was the one and only source of water ingress. Underbody splash panels should also inhibit this...
...know this is an old thread, but I'm adding this info for future reference.
The problem is on a LHD car the end of the harness goes through a grommet on the right side (looking head on at the engine bay) but on a RHD it goes through the left side. So the harness is effectively upside down if...
Did you run the leads through a hole in the poptop, or along the top and over the rear edge into the barn door grommets?
I’ve bought a roof gland but maybe it’s simpler just to run leads on the poptop surface.
...inside the van and then attach new MC4s to the bare ends, and connect to the extension leads. My previous install was through the tailgate grommet (I've a barndoor) and into the MPPT in the back units inside the van. Thinking about it, I just need to connect the panel leads to the extension...
more goodies from screwfix. . . .
external EHU OUT. . .
..
and a metal double socket . . .
i chose this one as it was sitting there on the shelf right in front of me , and i can fit a 20mm stuffing gland in the end of it, nivce and easy.
...
...- next to the EHU IN.?
but now im thinking of at the rear under the the rear bumper passenger side? - cable run could then be out the floor grommet under the seat, then allong the underside of the van to the back bumper location.
that will make it easier to connect to and run into the side...
Hello Sam,
Quick one for you - how best did you check the continuity? I presume you had to pierce the wire insulation to do so as theres no connectors here?
If you remove the tap lever you’ll be able to access the micro switch.
If it’s a Smev unit the plastic centre plug covering the tap lever screw doesn’t come out easily without damaging it. Best replaced with a rubber blanking grommet of a suitable size.
Hi - thanks for the reply. So you ran your cable under the van and back up in the step? Did you put it into any copex or conduit? What size cables did you use?
Mine go out through the big grommet under the seat then via the big void under the offside underbody plastic trim.
They then come back in through a hole drilled where the offside step used to be. Grommet fitted obviously.
I took my floor over the void where the step was and then used that gap...
