I used the canbus adapter in the connects2 kit.
On the steering wheel, The volume control and the next/previous track buttons work OK, but the phone buttons are poor.
Why do you say it has been disabled?
Can you see 'VW' on your phone's Bluetooth list when the ignition is on (might only be when the engine is running, I forget).

Did anyone ever get a fix to this? I’ve tried different phones and the reset. The crackle goes away for a while but then comes back. I’ve noticed it also makes my Google maps freeze, which is not ideal when I’m trying to find places.
My short time solution is to use the phone for Google maps...

I use a MagSafe power pack to charge in the evening or at night so the phone can be used with no cables trailing. I charge the pack during the day from one of the USB sockets.
I've recently changed phones and my previous phone charged albeit slowly when using Android Auto and GPS. New phone actually loses power when plugged in.
I think the head unit can only supply around 500ma which seems is not enough to run AA, GPS and charge.
Has anyone else seen this and come up...
Have you checked if it works with something basic like a USB stick of media?
There are huge amounts of protocols and things that can go wrong with phone communication, but USB Mass Storage is super basic and should always work.
