I just had a funky thought. On the original Davenport 17 inches, the speedometer was about 8% out. On the new 19 inch wheels the speedometer is almost perfect compared to the sat nav / Waze. So when looking at the mileage of a vehicle that you're purchasing ( or selling) then will the actual miles travelled vary according to the size of tyres and wheels that were fitted to the vehicle during its lifetime?
Hmmmm.

I believe so yes.

Consequently, a vehicle with larger diameter wheels/tyres will have covered more physical miles than the odometer has recorded.

Edit
If the vehicles odometer was accurate with the smaller wheels then yes and theoretically you should get better mpg as well.

My MPG is rubbish, so I'm going put 205/50r16 tyres on my spare set of alloys and watch the immediate improvement in fuel economy.

Bottom image is 19" Savini's on 30mm drop
Top is again 19" Banded steels B14 on lowest setting.

I personally think 19" is the best compromise between too small, and too big, but they are not an easy tyre to get in a load rating compared to 18, and 20" wheels.

Bottom van looks great, could I ask if it's a t32? Looking for a similar set up but worried about ride on 19" and if the 30mm drop does much?

19" tsw chicane, 255/45/19 tyres
Ride is no different to my 17 " Devonports

Yes T32.
The 30mm looses a small amount of the VW arch gap, but if you want it to sit low, don't waste money on springs, save the cash and put it towards coilovers.
It rides much nicer on 19s, than they do on the standard wheels.

Thank you for the quick response, could I ask what springs and coil overs you went for ?

Initially I went for the Sportline 30mm springs from VW, but just couldn't get the visual look I wanted, so moved to B14 coilovers.
The way I personally saw it, was I wasted £300 on the springs, that I could of put towards the B14s, but didn't realise.
If however you are not looking for that low low look and you will be happy with a slight drop and 19s, then there are slightly lower springs than 30mm available.

Your van is the first I've seen that I can confidently say " that's what I want to achieve". It needs to be practical and stylish...looks like you've achieved that really well! So b14s with about 30mm drop?

Which image do you like? Top or bottom

Bottom one with the black spoke alloys

If that's your perfect look, then you won't need the expense of B14s. That was achieved with just springs. Bare in mind I carry weight, making mine always look lower than others with the same springs.

My advice is go for 40 or even 50mm lowering springs (plenty available on Ebay) then get your favoured 19" wheels and use 45 profile tyres to give you the look I had, and the correct load rating. B14s are a better option if you want the option to adjust your suspension, and they can be more comfortable, but they will cost around £1250 against around £300-£400 for just lowered springs on your original shocks.

Lowering springs might give the "look" but you're still on the standard shock absorbers and they now have less travel.
I was going for shorter springs but saved a bit longer for some B14s and the ride is compliant compared to the crash and bang of the stock VW setup.
Will go for stiffer ARBs next as you still get a bit of a lurch when the road camber changes quickly but then that lurch is down to the extra speed you can carry through tight bends and roundabouts compared to the original technique of closing your eyes and hoping for the best on stock suspension.
