Go to another tyre fitter.
It’s not about the tyre fitter! It’s about all of us. We need to know exactly what is correct. Then we can make our own informed decision.
Nobody wants an insurance claim issue without knowing it’s a possibility.
It’s possible that some Van Conversion companies are suppling Vans that do not comply, this could be a huge issue.
Many of these Companies may have a point of view, but they need to provide EVIDENCE !
I’ve not seen any yet ……

Are you suggesting that a T30 camper conversion needs different tyres to a T30 Caravelle that comes from the factory with 'car' tyres?

Well one is a commercial vehicle and one is not. So what I am suggesting is that different rules apply. One can legally travel at 70mph on a dual carriageway and one cannot, as stated in the Highway Code !
What we all need is Valid insurance, I’m sure you will agree.
The tyre issue does need legal clarification. Let’s hope the factual answer is defined.

I would suggest that you change your 20 inch to 17 inch and put a commercial tyre on if you’re not comfortable. I’m sure a lot of people would buy your 20 inch wheels.

Well I would be more comfortable if some exact, correct information was available but the Mot info posted was for Cars and Passenger vehicles and the Protyre info again does not clarify what a small Van is. Where is the line drawn ?
If we are all breaking the law with wrong tyres, at least we need to know and then make our individual decisions.

Can You Fit Car Tyres to Vans or Van Tyres to Cars?

No, it is not advised to fit car tyres to vans or vice versa. Car and van tyres are specifically designed for purpose on the vehicle they are intended for. The right tyres for the right vehicle determine fuel efficiency, rolling resistance, can impact handling and braking – so it is always important to use the right tyres for the right vehicle. Consult your owners handbook to understand which sizes, load indexes and tyres of tyre are approved by the vehicle manufacturer for your van.

Still no answers ! But both Protyre and Goodyear state Van tyres for Vans, although they don’t say what constitutes a Van Tyre.

For tyres to comply with your insurance on a commercial vehicle they need the correct weight rating for the axles - call your insurer yourself they will confirm this.
Your supplier have had ‘one’ customer with this issue. Clearly we need to know more about this one customer. Maybe his tyres weren’t weight rated (as many transporters owners do this- Not us BTW). I think it’s up to your supplier to prove their info is correct (which it isn’t) not the other way round.
If it was true the whole van alloy wheel industry would collapse and no one would have insurance.

Oh and for the record we are from Bognor and we are involved with Motors ;-)

I truly hope you are correct. Do you have any evidence to confirm your first paragraph ?
Well done for joining the thread.
I wouldn’t mind betting a lot of companies wouldn’t want to get involved, for fear of the truth.
