UK Construction and Use regs 1986.....

"Condition and maintenance of tyres

27.—(1) Save as provided in paragraphs (2), (3) and (4), a wheeled motor vehicle or trailer a wheel of which is fitted with a pneumatic tyre shall not be used on a road, if—

(a)the tyre is unsuitable having regard to the use to which the motor vehicle or trailer is being put"

I read that, if you have a PV and have converted it to non- commercial purposes (camper, day-van) you can use non C tyres.

Probably should stick a ‘UK‘ in the title of this discussion as there are members worldwide where this won’t be applicable.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re not an actual Moomin.
I may or may not be a moomin & this is only my opinion
Sadly, I have no evidence to prove my opinion.

I do have a campfire story to tell re my reasons for being named moomin-j.
It starts off & involves a young girl who I first met at senior school...

there’s a reason to go to a Forum event one day - sit round a fire and find out!

If enough of us bury our head in the sand !
Given that the tyre fitter's anecdote is at variance with this community's experience (of many people over a protracted length of time), you should probably be asking the fitter for evidence that supports their claim, rather than asking the community to provide evidence to the contrary.

I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark and suggest that commercial-rated tyres are more expensive than car tyres!

Here is the tyre label from my T28 PV (now a converted camper) which clearly shows non C rated tyres as an option. The manual does not specify C Rated either, just the correct size, speed and load rating.

If anyone is worried just inform your insurance company you are running non standard wheels/tyres. They probably won’t even ask what and it will only cost a nominal amount if anything at all.

Edit: C rated tyres allow for higher pressures (above 50psi I believe) which will become a factor on the higher weight vans.

Now that's evidence, not just opinion!!
Thread closed?

He’s an idiot.

He’ll still not be happy with that.

Go and read the construction and use regulations
If you are suggesting I’m an idiot, you are entitled you your opinion, but suggest you keep it to yourself. Just as I am doing regarding you.
Also this is supposed to be a friendly forum and you may attract the attention of a moderator.
