The 275x35 tyre will be 2.8 cm smaller diameter so should be a little better. However 255 is the MAX recommended tyre for 8.5J

Yes this is what I’d found out but the same apply to the amorak steels I was looking at as they were only a 7.5 width max is 235 but many run 255 on them?

Mmmhm. I'm running 18 x 7.5J Amarok alloys. On the sidewall of my 245/50r18 tyres, it actually states '7.5J standard'.

So... after more research on “will they fit” website it turns out that the correct upgrade from 205 65 16 (original steels) is 245/35/20 or if I use the recommended 18” oem tyre size 255/45/18 it says 255/35/20 both are pretty much an identical match for rolling radius and speedo readings ??? God I hate wheels !!

Hey everyone

Just picked up my kombi yesterday..and i really want to swap these cr@py alloys for something better.

Kinda have my heart set on the

HAWKE CHAYTON 20 inch

After reading the wiki on wheels and tyres..im still clueless. I took a screen grab off a site..could these wheels work without mucking about with the car?

Thanks for that...

If i dont lower it..but put higher profile tyres on it...could that make the ride less harsh? Is that even possible? Told u i was clueless..lol

If it's not lowered, it shouldn't be harsh anyway, quite the opposite, even on 20's
However, larger profiles on 20" wheels, and it will look odd, if they actually fit, and the speedo might be quite a bit out.

I'd search standard set-ups with 20's images. You might change your mind when you see what they can sometimes look like.

The spending begins...

Stock transporter suspension is a combination of crashy/rolly and lurchy, leading to a sort of whoa, whoa, eek approach to tight corners and blurred vision when traversing potholes.

Fitting 20" wheels makes the van look like a donk on stock suspension which is ok for a swamper but less so if you want your van to simply look cool and handle better.

Fitting shorter springs with stock shock absorbers will make the van handle more like a car but one with rock hard crashy suspension.

Fit B14s regardless of wheel size if you want predictable genuinely normal car like suspension and take the fear out of fast tight corners... helps with the blurred vision on our broken roads too.

You may also want to consider if the “load rated” status of the alloys is actually sufficient for the particular mark of van the you have (T26, 28, 30, 32) as I have seen plenty of alloys claiming to be load rated only to not actually be sufficient for my T32.

Went to Skidz in Falkirk today..lol..alloy wheel porn. Spoke to one of the guys...and literally just done a t6 yesterday. Fella had kept his original shocks..but put used Eibach springs to lower 50 mm. Then 20 inch alloys with 275.40.20. Great ride..not harsh..much better handling. Think im going for the Hawke Chayton. The B14s are out of my price range. Any thoughts?

Also what about my warranty..if i made these changes..would i be in hotwater with Vw?

Many thanks

Hi I have 20' alloys and I am just after tyres and size advice.
Fronts 20 x 8.5 ET40
Rears 20 x 10 ET 42

It's a T28 van just wanted as quite as possible tyres and wasnt sure of sizes.

Thanks in advance

Decided on nice wheels and lowered springs 40 or 50 mm. Should stiffen up ride fine..if not..ARB's for me..lol. Thats it..no more cash spent on this Bl@@dy van. Id actually like a holiday this year..lol
