Hi did you get your van lowered!
Just asking as have exactly the same size wheel/tyre combo as you and I’m just getting ready to lower mine.
Is there any rubbing?
Thinking the SOLOW coilovers.

Not yet, gonna have to wait to see if I get a bonus this Christmas. Kinda getting used to stock height and big wheels. When I do lower it it won’t be too low

Nangkang are not considered budgets anymore and the AS-1 is a very decent tyre. We’ve fitted loads without a single issue, on our own demos and customer vehicles.

Back to the tyre size debate.......

275/35 is the only 20” size recommended by VW, now they sell 20’s. But only up to T30

They don’t recommend a T32 size. 275/40 is oversize, and looks too big. Most companies sell these in their packages as they a RR size and more readily available. 265/40 is nearer the correct size, and looks better, and when significantly lowered with the correct offset won’t rub. They are, however, more expensive.

Remember your tyres are the only thing connecting you to the toad, don’t scrimp on them.

Agree, they look great on mine and they have the added benefit of larger rolling radius which greatly improves drivability especially with a standard 5 speed g/box. no longer looking for a sixth gear when motorway driving. Just need to be aware of 'minor' speedo deviation until you run at above 70 mph where real speed is closer to 75/76 MPH. More than happy with 275/40/20's.

Hi all,

275/40/20 V 275/35/20

Yet another tyre question i know.........sorry. I have pretty much most of the threads post on here concerning all tyre and wheel sizes. Very informative and its educated me a lot, but would like some real world feed back from people who have actually fitted and run the above tyres and have a first hand knowledge of the comparison between the both.
I understand the speedo errors and rubbing situation on some tyres...........but just looking for comfort and ride quality opinions.
I have 275/40/20's fitted to 8.5" wide Hawke Chayton alloys.
My t30 Kombi is lowered on H&R -40 springs (will be going lower at some stage...coil over route probably)
I find the ride quite comfy......wee bit crashy over over speed bumps when no load, but other than that happy with the ride.
I do find the side wall to look a bit on the big side....but its acceptable.
If i fit the 275/35/20's i reduce the sidewall by 14mm which will aesthetically please me but will i regret the loss in ride quality (if any) due to the smaller stiffer profile?
Cheers

I have a 2018 T6 T28 lwb it has been converted into a camper I have Lowered it by 40mm and I would like to put 20” wheels on but I am not sure what size of tyre to go for.

Width of tyre would depend on the width of the wheel :) Profile wise I have 35 on my 10" wide 20" wheels.

If you want to keep the correct circumference 255/35/20 works. Lots run much taller sidewalls to fill the wheel arches though so you need to decide what is important to you.

I have the same question! Looking to get 20s on my T28 with standard -30mm springs and want the comfort that 275/40/20s may provide without the worry of rubbing. Reading multiple posts I’m switching between 35 and 40s. Not even sure if this should be a concern until I go lower.

but you have these now right? So what issues do you have with rubbing and speedo errors? Any? Are you just concerned with introducing issues with comfort when you go lower?

what offset is on your Hawkes? This could have an impact when going lower I guess although not on comfort. It would be good to know though especially if you have no rubbing issues now :)

I run 275/40/20. I have no issues with the speedo and certainly no issues with comfort or kerbing protection...but it does rub on the driver's side on full lock.

My local tyre fitter gave me the attached details as optimum running size. On my wheel/tyre size you really notice the undulation of the road and the steering rarely runs straight.

255s on the front, interesting. I would be concerned about comfort with those on. And 35s on the back even though they are 10”! What’s the offset on the fronts?

Now I’m definitely beginning to wish I’d bought a van with wheels on and let someone else make the call!

well if it doesn't track straight with your current 275/40/20 set up then it will only exacerbate the problem going with your fitter's choices (ignoring, for now, potential load rating issues with those tyres)

Im not sure on my offset....guessing 45 as they don't sit flush with the arches. They are 8.5" and I bought a set of 275 35 20" . I have no rubbing on full lock now and comfort level hasn't been effected in my opinion.
Looks better in 35 profile in my eyes but that's different for everyone.

275/35 all round run at pressure of between 36-38psi. This is actually the most accurate size and recommended by VW themselves for a 20" wheels on a T30 or less.
