Will 255/45 not fit without a heat gun then?
255/45 gives you a bigger diameter than 265/40 and will rub more. It’ll also throw your speedo out by too much. 265/40 is the right size for T32. It might be OK and not rub. How low are the springs? -50mm? Usually only need the heat gun past about 60mm lowering or so.

After a bit of searching the forum for tasty wheels, I'm being drawn to the Supermetal 20" Trident wheels.. They are even VW approved! I've got a couple of questions if that's ok. What tyre size/spec for these? I want to have correct speedo etc. also can I just jack the van up and stick them on! The van would be lowered by 40mm later...

Oh is matt black a bad idea compared to glossy?

The website also has some great imagery / vid of them on the t6.1

Many thanks

Tyre sizes as above
Don't be tempted to go 275/40 as a lot of companies supply. Also 100% go matt/satin black.

Many thanks as always for the help. Just costing this lot up! I think VW dealer to see if he can cost them up but I guess I will still have to take the Devonports that were on the order...

Just had an email back from the dealer saying no to the Tridents on the T32... I phoned Supermetal up and the gist is the Wheel is load rated but you can only put a 275 tyre on to meet the exact size... Now you can t get a 273 tyre that is load rated as required... I asked about a 265/40 /20 and this works but the rolling circumference is out by %4.7.... any thoughts?

Vw won't put them on a T32, only due to tyre size (275/35) being underated, wheels are fine.
They quoted me around 1800 I seem to remember with some half decent tyres, much cheaper to go to wheelbase or somewhere instead and get the (albeit mildly oversized) correct rated tyres.

So went for 265 40 20 goodyear good price loads of clearance .... they sit well on the rim!

Also had the full geometry check jobs a good un before and after....front toe was always going to be out cos i changed the track rod ends...View attachment 70891
Hello,, How's it going with the 265/40/20? I'm getting a t32 and really fancy a set of the trident Wheels.. How did the noise / fuel consumption increase? also what do feel about the wheels being 4% bigger than spec for the speedo et... many thanks..

I have the exact same wheels purchased a few weeks ago now with 0% interest from Alloy Wheels
I was recommended to go with 275/40/20 tyres on my T32.
This is a great resource to compare speeds, translation of profile etc Wheel sizes and comparisons

My experience has been mixed. The tyres are too big at the front. I like the look on their rear but I can hear the steering pump complaining and fuel consumption has degraded. They tyres also stick out from the wheel arch, if you lower your van they will rub if you hit bumps. One other thing to note, this tyre/ wheel combination is extremely heavy!!!!
I can‘t remember the exact figure but my Speedo is out by around 5%, so 60 mph indicated really is 60mph according to a GPS.

Even with all that, it looks awesome!

Hi Guys,
Im looking at getting the 20" Supermetal Tridents on my T30. Im currently running on 17's lowered on Eibach 30mm springs, also have H&R spacers. What would you guys recommend on tyre choice, also would I assume the spacers would have to come off? Would the springs need changing? Anyone running these wheels? Have you got any pics.IMG_3263.jpg

Good choice.

On tyres:

If a T32, then 265/40/20, if T30 or T28, then 275/35/20

You'll probably need to get rid of spacers i think, but will be fine with 30mm drop springs (although i suspect you'll want to lower it more!).

I'm running these wheels and love them!
