2017 T6- To buy or not to buy!

I’ve got a 102 Highline, and I’m well happy with it. Keeps up with traffic no problem. I’d say try a converted 102 out if you can before committing, to see whether it goes well enough for you.

102 is fine for me, driving, fuel and insurance wise.

I don’t see it as a deal breaker either, these things can be chipped for anything from - max power to max fuel efficiency or even, in between, such as a gentle tweak to to boost it up to 140 for a couple of hundred quid.

As for my asking price..
Mine is priced to sell, why?
Firstly I already have another van a Crafter and I’m just waiting to take delivery, so this has to, I can’t fit both in my driveway.

Secondly. CV19- there’s a lot of folk who are going to be worried about their jobs etc, so I can see that the pool of potential purchasers is likely to be smaller. I’d rather not spend any money on storage.

So it’s very realistically priced. I’m over a bit of a barrel.

..... form an orderly queue

I've got a 17 reg 102 and it's perfect. Bought the van for £19,000 and spent a further £16k ish on getting it fully camped out (Roof, Webasto, Full Leather, Wheels, Suspension, ARBs, Redarc DC-DC charger, Floor Safe, Swivel Bench Seat plus a few other bits and pieces). I have an 'Agreed Value' insurance of £37k with Adrian Flux. Happy enough with that.

I must be missing something here!! People on are saying £31k is too much for a 102 bhp but that the one that a member is selling at £34.5k (was over £35k) that is a 102 bhp is good!
Looking at your first post..
“2017 T6 T28 SWB 2.0 diesel 102 bhp “ & ( miles) Made me think of @Oldrat s van for sale.
Your price in first post is more near 32k before conversion.

Personally I would pay the extra seeing the final product, fitted and working.

The members on here are very helpful, and believe me they will say if something isn’t right.

I read the post in that the van is in conversion now, and the agreed price is post conversion. Unless I read that wrong...?!

I’m going to chirp in here... having owned the 102 trend line as a panel van for work I personally hated it. Not everyone will! We also had a 102 high line which was better. my advice, Personally I would hold out and get a 150 high line.
I waited and waited and travelled 400 mile round trip to get my T6 as I have learnt unless you buy from new you have to make some compromises.

Just a thought, make sure that your new van gets DVLA classified as N1, so that you benefit from car speed limits.
New conversions, even those that match the criteria are being declined as their internal policy has changed

To throw a quick question back at you....have you driven any variant of the T6? if i was you (and i was in the same boat last year) id get in one and have a drive and decide what suits your needs. i have a 102 Trendline (based on the above advise you have got, ill await everyone to point and laugh at me!). Van spec/age/miles/conversion/price are all factors which you need to seriously consider what works for you.

I set out looking to buy a higher spec T5.1 however my van popped up at a price in my budget, it didn't have everything i wanted but it was low miles, many years newer and converted in a style i liked (DVLA motorhome, no poptop, no stickers, right colour etc) it was a good option for me. id have preferred multi-function wheel and decent headlights when i bought it however I've since fitted both of these myself for a shade over £300 - if i had of waited for a van with these in it would have cost me a shedload more and id still be waiting.

Since buying it I've done some decent miles driving to/from and touring Ireland with 4 adults a dog and all the luggage that goes with it and i didnt need any more power than the van comes equipped with..i think a requirement for BHP is largely down to driving style..id say my driving style is swift but economical driving at (give or take a few mph officer) the speed limits. I don't find the need to nail the throttle or brakes all the time! (i leave that for when im not on the public highway!)

some tips:
  1. i'd suggest getting out and in the drivers seat of 102 and see how it feels...i've personally not found it underpowered and the MPG i get out of it was better than i expected.
  2. i'd not set 'red lines' in spec that can be retrofitted, if everyone waits for a van with all the whistles and bells demand increases therefore the price gets pushed up.
  3. look about at whats been sold and at what price, looking on ebay for example gave me a good idea what buyers were actually paying and not what sellers would like to sell it for - 2 different things.

Go and drive one when the lockdown is lifted. We have a 102bhp camper, and it’s fine.

Pete

it must have taken me a while to type that, as you put the same as me in a far more efficient manner whilst i was busy typing!

We have a 102 Highline camper and it’s fine power wise and great features on it. For years I have had the smallest engines cars with the highest possible spec and I have found them all to be fine. One thing the 102 does lack though is an auto option, I would get a bigger engine if I could have afforded that but couldn’t with all the other options I wanted.

If you are used to power then maybe the 102 is not for you but as a cruiser it works perfectly for me

It would be a good idea to try one first if possible

You're welcome @Dale2890 ,the forum is a great source of information and advise. No two peoples ideas of a dream van are quite the same,it's a very individual thing. Don't rush into anything, get a clear idea of exactly what it is you would like and go from there, accept everyones advise and take the bits you want from it and if you disagree with something, discard it,it's your van! I agree with @sparkzer and @Pete C , go and drive the different engine variants after the lockdown and see which suits you,as i said, everyone's different, hope you find what you want

Very true! What works for one may not work for others. 100% take a test drive and figure out what suits you best. Then comes the “do I really need this..” not really but I want it!!

As I said some like the 102, I didn’t, thats not to say that you wouldn’t. As has been said, when the times right, get out there and drive a few. if I were to buy a second hand 102 I would prefer to buy one from a member on here - that has all the headaches of conversion completed and it’s more of a sure bet, being tried and tested. Good luck in whatever you choose.
