My new Bi-Turbos were only fitted 721 miles ago (1 month) and the dip stick is now only showing 1/3 full! They changed the oil and coolant on this job, so assuming they topped it up properly, it's not looking good for my engine! Currently on 43,667. I did approx 240miles this weekend, I checked it before I left. Was showing approx 3/4 full.

When I speak to VW later, should I be quoting the TPI 2061290/6. to them?

Orange Coil light keeps coming on and goes into restricted performance.

Bi-Turbo 204hp (CXEB) DSG, 4motion, 2018, 42,800mls.

I had orange coil light popping up. Was displaying these fault codes. I had the All In Warranty, so went to my local VW Commercial garage (they sold me the warranty 13 months ago). Apparently, the info that they then got back from Germany was to put a new Bi Turbo system on it, which they did along with 4 pages of parts! Total was approx £6,900 as they broke a stud on the manifold so had to drop the engine. All was covered under the All In warranty.

I'm going to ask them to do a proper oil weight check and possibly a compression check.

Not according to the 4 page list of parts. Most of the 4 page of parts has a 44.7% discount applied. The estimate quote that was sent to Extended Warranty for authorisation was for £4,545.25p This with the discounts applied.

Sitting like it might be a new engine time, plus DPF etc....

Quote the TPI, they will want to do the oil test... Or may skip that is they just fitted the turbo and refilled with new oil and filter

Compression test would be next..... Try and get the results of them when they do it.

All them nicely for the psi or bar across all the cylinders.

Spoke to VW.... stated the possible issue and the TPI. They said they can run an investigation but if it isn't using more than 0.5L per 1000km then they would have to charge me for the work/investigation/compression test.

So, I'm going to top it up and monitor for another few weeks an make sure I'm completely confident it's not leaking out somewhere else!
Got 8.5 months left on my ALL IN.

both checked, N75 changed still no luck, Garage contacted TPS about actuators and was told by TPS, they dont sell them separately, and quoted me for a whole turbo unit with new actuators, Are they available seperately? Does anyone have any part numbers for them?

have a look on Darkside Developments website, they have new and recon on there I believe.

My turbo failed last year on my way to holiday in France, luckily failing before the tunnel.

so I made it onto Dell Massive's list

got a new turbo then it spent the best part of 6 months in the dealership whilst they tried to fix heating issues related to coolant etc.

problem is I took it out today and the oil light came on, its had 1200 miles since turbo from what I can tell (trip computer) and it took about 3/4 of a litre to get it to mid point on the dipstick.

I assume Im now looking at more issues in time. BIG QUESTION is: do I drive down to France next Friday, 800 odd miles? its 2 stages on the way down then I do one long drive on the way back.

Im OK (ish) with topping up oil but should I be expecting another catastrophic engine failiure?

It took alot of work on my part to get the dealership and VW to do good will on the turbo, in the process they claimed to have looked at DPF region etc, coolant in oil etc because they didn't want to help. but in the end they caved.

so initial question is whether the drive down is risky or not?

its doing to dealer on Tuesday for them to 'take a look'

Van recovered to my local van center ( Liverpool) …this almost identical fault happened last May 24 …so hope as it’s a second repeat fault …something will be done

just found the video clip from when my CXEB engine first failed to start. . .

id already known it was using a lot of oil, and was planning to get the garrage to look into it at the next service.

totaly normal day. . . went to start the van to head for work,

it cranked, fired, run then shut down.

second try - it failed to start,

this is the third & fourth try to get it on video.

and thats the van shutting of, not me - normaly the van will auto crank untill it fires after seeing the key-crank sinal.

but of this occasion it just cranked and stopped.

fearing the worst - timing belt. . . . . i called the VWCV assist and asked for a Silver van guy.


showed him the vid clip ( and the data about using oil) , . . . he kept cranking it and it finaly coughed into life and ran lumpy as hell.


his opinion was low compression caused by the bore wear and fouled injector/s from the oil contamination, when it fired he said it counded like it was only running on two or three cyclinders. . . . . . for about 2mins of tickover, at which point it started running normaly.


months later - we found out that he was correct.
