4motion wheelspin

Unfortunately you are right - our T6's won't indicate on the dash any way the loss of 4Motion . It just disconnects itself - zero power to rear wheels. Interesting, or confusing, thing is that restarting the engine made the 4Motion work again :speechless:. The same was true with my old T5.

I do prefer more mechanical systems; 4motion is too heavily managed by electronics IMO.
Still far better than FWD but it’s not the best 4wd system out there.

Our BMW might be the worst car off road although our heavier old 335d caused me a few embarrassing moments like having to be pushed off the tiniest incline on damp grass...I think I’m just more cautious with this one so no similar incident yet. Great on road, awful off it!

That is a bit surprising that there was no indication given all warning indicators modern vehicles are capable of displaying. I do drive ours up a sand mound once a month just to work the system, (I wouldn't get up it without 4wd), and also operate the rear diff lock (although that would be far more difficult to work out if it was working.) I don't think even cross axeling it would show it up, as the front axel has an electronic diff lock I think.
I remember reading about mk1 Discovery's and how many of them couldn't engage either the centre diff-lock or low range because the linkage was seized solid, due to most users never using it.
Actually it is quite easy to verify that your rear diff lock is working. Find unpaved road or preferably soft surface. Just make very slow full lock turn and then compare the traces of rear wheels with lock on and lock off. When lock on you'll see that both rear wheels are rotating at same speed which is pretty hard in tight turn for inner rear wheel making it slip.

I've just noticed that I have the haldex pump open circuit error. It has just been in to VW for a service and they did not mention this although it is due a haldex oil change. I was planning to take it to the place in Wales (T5 Upgrades?) which service the pump as well as do the oil change rather than get VW to do just the oil change.

Does this error mean that it'll need a new pump and so no point getting the pump serviced with oil change?
