Adblue range on MFD

Hi just driving down to Devon and the Adblue warning light came on stating 650 miles until engine will not restart. Pulled over added some Adblue but it over flowed out of the nozzle so the tank is full.. check carista and no faults but still states 650 miles.. is this a faulty sensor? Or something else going on , any help would be great

Try this one

I recognise that username from Pistonheads, small world :)

It's a bit too easy to overfill the adblue on a Transporter, that can then flood the sensor and cause the issue described.

I think your next stop/step will be a main dealer to try and reset the sensor, there's a software update too although I'd expect that to have been done by now.

Was it over filled before?

How much did you just add before it over flowed?

Hi Dell no it was running at / showing 4000miles I went round a roundabout then about 2 mins later came on showing 650miles and warning.. quickly turned round and found a Halfords and bought some more add blue, checked under the van and no sign of any leakage so started to add more ad blue.. it then promptly over flowed so figured it must be a fault sensor. Continue for another 30 miles and then just switched back to normal showing 6k miles .. think yay this is awesome it’s fixed. I just got back from from north Devon and going round the ring road of Bristol, after the third roundabout the light came back stating 650miles.. like I have no idea what’s going on. Seems it doesn’t like round about and is still on at the mo.. uurrgh one more thing to fix. I spoke to my garage and he said it’s a common issue and is very costly to fix. Basically a whole new Adblue tank..

Cheers
Daniel

The first thing the garage would do is Syphon out half the adblue tank to rule out overfill.

The tank, pump, level sensor can be tested with diag tools.

Got AA or all-in cover?

They can scan for codes.

Aah Kk, would you recommend I symphony off some of the Adblue, can just shove a pipe in and suck some out. I have RAC cover but need to be over one mile away which can be easily done. However last time I called them they said they would not come out unless the engine is fully on. So not sure I would get a call out. I have booked it in for check over with the nearest vw garage which is Cardiff.. bit of a trek but can see the van on the 24th. Bristol branch is booked up till 4 July which is bonkers. Any way just need this van to stop giving grief.. one thing after another currently ..

Thanks for the suggestions , appreciated.

Just wondering would any vw specialist be able to see what’s going on with the Adblue? I tried carista but nothing coming up.
Cheers

I inadvertently overfilled mine recently & had the same issue. Ran the van for around 500 miles, the “650 miles” warning never dropped & then suddenly, 5000miles range came up. I’d run it & see what happens. L.I.D.

Maybe I will take a load of the Adblue out and see.. thing is it’s when I go round the round about that seems to trigger it.. Unless it’s just coincidence that it came on after a couple roundabouts .

Maybe it’s got an issue because it’s full ish (4000 miles) before the light came on first time

If everything appears fine until you drive round a roundabout and then the issues start, I would hazard a guess the seal on the Adblue filler cap is not sealing? The hard Right turn, round the roundabout, may be pushing the liquid left, up the filler tube and out of the opening? This coupled with the info that over filling leads to the 650miles issue might tie in with each other? JMHO.

Yeah I didn’t notice any spillage when I filled it the first time the light came on. But the hypothesis seems sounding did notice the cap doesn’t seem that time though come to think of it. Cheers

I use streetwise in Bristol as my independent garage they’ve looked after my vws for years
Wouldn’t take my van anywhere else especially the main stealers
Thanks a chippie will hit them up, appreciated, do you happen to have a contact number?
