AdBlue top-up issue (merge)

Seems a completely bonkers system. My 2016 Nissan Navara takes Adblue and you just fill the tank. No bother at all.

Thanks everyone for advice

ok so an update on how I fixed this, after getting down to 200miles before the engine was disabled

I removed the small adblue undertray, 3 x 8mm bolts directly underneath the van inline with the adblue top up cap...there were several other undertray sections but just the small section was all that was needed. I was then able to squeese my hand in and remove the quick release fill up pipe...there are two pipes but the fill up pipe is the much wider pipe....I had to sqeeze together the two green compression sections of the quick release hose and off it popped...

I then stuck a pipe onto the tank and when I did this the fluid started to pour out the sides, it looks like there is a one way spring loaded valve so when you push the pipe in then it lets all the adblue run out the sides, I grabbed a bucket and caught about 6litres.

After draining out the 6 litres I reconnected the quick release fill pipe.

I then turned the ignition on and left it for around 60 seconds, but no change.

I went for a drive and kept switching off and on waiting 60 seconds before starting the car but again no luck...I did this again and again for the next 24hrs but with no change.

The next day I added around 4litres back in, I'm guessing that left about 2-3 litres before overflowing, switched the ignition on and with in about a second it immediately registered 6000miles...I didn't even need to wait 30 seconds or go for a drive.

Thank god it's fixed as I really didnt fancy an expensive visit to the dealer or worse having to replace anything...

So I guess the moral of the story is don't overfill the adblue tank, only add the required amount shown on the dash inside the car.

Thanks everyone for the help, you all saved the day :)

I filled up at the 350 miles to go range, followed the guidelines on Adblue topping up on this site and it all worked out well, tank showing 5000mikle to go.
Love this site, thanks for all the help from all members.

Was that a 10 litre bottle Tony? I put a 5 litre in mine t'other day which gave me an extra 2000 miles. First time I've put the stuff in!

I'm on the adblue gravy train now. Had the van nearly 3 years and past top ups have been fine, but this time when I got the 650 mile warning I waited till it dropped to 600 then added 10 litres. Hasn't registered and now down to 550 till death. I'm just gonna leave it for now. Due a regen soon so will see if that has any effect.

Hi,

Could do with some urgent advice about adblue on a T6 manual. At 1200 miles left it wanted min 2.5 gallons and max 2.75 gallons. So I put in just under 10 liters (2 gallons). I then turned on the ignition but did not start it up. The van has registered it now only needs 0.75 min and 0.75 max, but the miles to empty stayed the say.

As I was going on a long drive (280 miles) I thought it may register and show more miles during the journey, but it hasn't. I now have 900 miles until empty.

Did I make a mistake by not filling up above min 2.5 gallons it required at 1200 miles?

What should I do now to get it to register? Should I topup the 0.75 gallons it's asking for, or is that risky as thats also the max?
or is there another way to get it to register the new miles left? Little worried as I'm away with it for two weeks then need to drive another 280miles home.

Thanks for any help!

what happened ? I’m back in the adblu nightmare again, was asked to put in 2.25-2.5 cals…followed it exactly but not registering..this adblu thing is a nightmare even when you do what it says

I’m in the same boat, I’m down to 200 miles and am planning on doing 3 months round spain next week, I’m going to try and drain it as you have suggested in your previous post @lucky13

Any more ideas are much appreciated

none at the moment, i’m going for a long drive next week, 500miles so if that doesn’t sort it then i’ll have to try draining it again and fingers crossed it will work again..all this stress makes me want to sell the van ..it’s like having a ticking bomb every few months

If I can’t get it sorted by trying this I think I’m going to get the adblue mapped out of the van.

From what I’ve been told you can just delete it from the software and it won’t look for adblue anymore.

so a slight change today, ad blu readout now displays it needs another 1.25-1.5 gallons.

Question ? If I added that, it would
make a total of 3.5 gallons ( around 15litres) , I’m assuming that wouldn’t fit into the ad blue tank ?

That’s not cheap either, I did ring a few places and it would be cheaper just to get the issue sorted at a main stealer, also an ad blue delete is apparently pretty complicated to achieve and has all sorts of negative knock on affects.

From what I’ve read online the adblue tank is around 13litres.

Do you know what any of the negative knock on effects are from deleting it?

I honestly can’t remember that well possibly something to do with increased emissions and messing up the egr valve or something which would then end up expiring early and costing lots of money ..either way it wasn’t worth it in the long run ..looks like we are screwed either way

I’ve been trying everything to pop off the pipe with the green push release buttons and nothing is making it come free. I think you’re right about us being screwed :(
