Aftermarket Digital Cluster - Guinea Pig

Has anyone else noticed the 'consumption' gauge is around the wrong way? It should (at least the factory VW) gauge increases with MPG (drive like a vicar it is high, nail it and it is low) however on these clusters it is the other way around and more like a fuel usage gauge (drive like a vicar, low...nail it high).

It is interesting watching the voltage gauge, go up and down dependant on how its being driven, which clearly shows how the smart alternator is working, giving charge when slowing down and not charging so much when driving at constant speed.

Final other great (simple) thing these have that VW omitted...it actually tells you what your headlights are doing...sidelights, low beam, high beam etc.

Its not a limiter, its a warning "bong" and 100% you deffo have it ;).

If you're doing it yourself make sure you have access to a genuine VCDS to backup your vans ECU's prior to fitting the dash as it will re-write some items without asking you.

edit- I may have written that without spotting "VCDS User" on your tags
Whoops. What happens now?

Loving my new 6K redline too. :D

No van shaped vehicle I can find yet. Need to cut the hole out too.

It’s exactly that - I’ve seen the measurements are litres per minute. Analogous to throttle position, if it wasn’t drive by wire.

Yup...here is the comparative guage on my golf with factory digital dash driving in 'Vicar mode'...this is clearly what they were emulating, but I think perhaps missed the correct operation

You have to hand it to them, the Chinese manufacturers are brilliant at this sort of thing. I can't imagine how long it must take to reverse engineer the systems to then make a board that can interface, let alone all the code.

I bought this module from Ebay for my Cayenne PCM3 to support wireless Carplay/Android Auto on what is now a 12+ year old platform.

It's so well engineered to fit in the standard chassis, without removing anything else and works faultlessly. £250 odd at the time.

I see what you’re saying. VW considered consumption as miles per gallon (higher = better) whilst this considers consumption as milllitres / minute or whatever (lower = better). Both make sense but I guess it’s more useful to have a particular MPG target in mind and aim for that.

@antony.charnley this should be fed back - can’t see why it couldn’t be an option to choose between the two in the menu.

Just out of interest, I’ve been driving the T6 by not applying throttle on take-off as it results in a smoother clutch action. You can see this gauge raise a little when it applies its own amount of throttle. Very cool to see drive by wire in action.

I find the mpg/range is way out compared with the factory MFD.

I get around 600 miles to a tank but the cluster never suggests much above 360 miles after a refill. It's a bit weird because it's suggests I am getting 50+ mpg.

I'd expect the range to be much higher based on the mpg. I've done about 8k miles since install so it should have learnt long term values by now.

Potentially a conversion issue, miles/kmh?

But as others are reporting the economy meter is working backwards, it could be related to that as well.

Those two things in combination suggest your tank size is wrong. Do you know if you’ve got an 80l tank?
