Aftermarket Digital Cluster - Guinea Pig

Another issue I noticed on my back from a meeting in Marlow. The indicators don’t seem to have the 3 flash on press of the stalk. Anyone else have this problem?

Mine’s the other way around. I switched it off with VCDS a good while ago and now it’s back on since the install. Haven’t got round to setting it back to how I want it yet.

I’m putting it in the same category as the chirp / blink on lock.

From memory it’s called something like ‘comfort indicator behaviour’.

Big thanks to @antony.charnley for taking time out his evening to improve the quality of life in my faithful t5.1 with a digi dash install, coolant temp, battery voltage read out, range, mpg and much more all of which I didn't have before and all of which are appreciated.
Show us a pic then .
I'd love to swap out our startling dash for something that actually shows the things that vw thought weren't important enough.

Try your setting calibration speed on +5 in the calibration menu - below the fuel ltr number, then try again. At the same time check your driving speed on a gps app, waze will do.

I would want to be making sure the gps speed and the speedo are very close. Cruise is setting the OEM board, the virtual is just trying to read it remember. I wouldn't be happy aligning the gps and actual much under 60mph to minimise margin for error.
Had a play about this morning on the way to work and i think i set it at +1 and the speedo was quite accurate with with sat nav. Thanks

A thought. I've manly and butch 18" swamper wheels on mine and the speedo under reads a touch as a result. Can the settings in these beasties be tweaked to correct this sort of thing? Not an issue if it can't.
Yes, it can using the calibration speed offset. You can make your dash present your speed exactly matched to gps road speed. I think we are all still learning whether this has a relationship with the target speed on acc, cruise set. Which i am confident only sets based on previous basic code and access straight to the BCM. In which case we are only looking to calibrate the dash to the vehicle road speed? Is this unit potentially getting its speed reading from
What vehicle have you set the image as on your dash. Doesn’t look like a T6 from this shot.

I spoke to them about that, 5.1 is getting a new vehicle graphic rolled out in around a month or so to represent Multivan - I did say the present T6 was closer than not, but I think truth be told, they were focussing on getting the screen and scale to fill the dials - I noticed they added scale into the standard options menu, so you can increase decrease slightly if required.

Did you take the plunge?
Should probably do a build thread as the van started off as a panel van, for now though...

Its been sat on the side of the office for a few months but I came across this thread the other day and it finally gave me the incentive to get on with it yesterday (although I've got enough on the go with building the furniture units and re-arranging the leisure electrics etc etc).
I keep telling myself "Rome wasn't built in a day". #havenopatience

I need to get the up to date F/W but have been told there is a new update arriving next month

I've also joined the Digital Dash club...thanks to Antony for supplying super quick and during the holidays. I installed myself, straightforward enough if your happy taking stuff apart/working with PCBs etc..but as others have said Antony does a first class service should you want it installed.

Early feedback from me is overall positive but despite being 100% sure speed warning was disabled and set to max, by the time id got the settings to my liking, i seem to have managed to enable it as during the 1mile run around the block im getting 'bongs'...but no drama, ill do the reset tomorrow. im sure in normal use this wont be a problem as in normal use the amound of key presses will be significantly less than when your setting up and going though all the menus etc.

Another point to note was i also managed to place 2 phone calls during the setup process...initially i couldnt figure out what was going on when my phone started dialing random people, but it dawned on me they were from my recent call history in the van. Again less likely to be an issue when your not scrolling though all the menus to figure stuff out/setup...i just turned off bluetooth for the remainder of the setup time.

Finally, as a van of a solid colour, as others have said it would be good if there was an option not to have a 2-tone van option...my 'workaround' was to actually set the top half to be the same blue as the bottom half, which dispite being the wrong colour, seemed a closer match than the blue/white.

Thanks again to Antony and a positive reccomendation for Everest VW from me.

Thanks @sparkzer and I'm glad you got all sorted. I wonder whether there is any Bluetooth dial out control in the phone software that could block the final dial out without a confirmation or something. As for the van colour options, we are all very much expecting that in the firmware set to release on the 15th. I will be first to get a notification when that's with us for over the air installations which I will post a fresh video on to identify the differences. I will be asking for a list too, to see what we can expect to benefit from!

Cheers, I did wonder if it would be less of a problem with an aftermarket head unit (that i also plan to change at some point), but I suspect they all like to intigrate with the dash like the OEM unit. Again i suspect it will be less of an issue in normal use. i have a OEM ditigal dash in my Golf and barely ever change menus etc during normal operation.

The only R&D fix i could think of if they wanted to put the development in was if the dash display connected to the head unit via bluetooth and the phone could connect to the dash display and not the head unit at all thus preventing the ghost dialing. It could open up the posability of seeing all of the phone call menus on the dash display also which i understand is a big plus for some people. The problem I forsee however is if the dash display could emulate a 'phone' to route out/in audio to the head unit, like a phone call (interupting radio etc) whilst being connected to a phone and if there would be any audio degradation/latency/echo etc as a result.
It might also be a handy way to get phone audio out of the van speakers when using screen mirroring on apple devices (which i understand is/was a problem). Im an android user, so not a thing for me...but thowing the idea out there.

@antony.charnley
thanks again for the information you provide...
me and a few others in the german Tx-board-Forum have fitted the digital dash and are discussing the same topics as are discussed here. I am indeed very content with the new instrument cluster and I have only minor issues to be resolved (i.e. a flickering icon for distance warning or dpf-regeneration). I have contact to the new chinese friends of mine but it is a bit of a piece of work to get the informations I need... the chinese way of thinking is really very special to me ;)

If you don't mind please give us new information about any updates or workarounds as soon as they are available. Your support is much appreciated here and tbh if GB was still member of the EU I would have bought mine via your website (which is a good source of information by the way).
But since Brexit tax and postage is a pia... surely nothing new for you.

Happy new year and all the best for you
Jan
