Alarm Movement Sensor - disabling for sleeping / leaving dogs / windows ajar [thread merge]

I wonder if the alarm would be happy with the sensor disconnected? If so you could fit a switch to it...

I have disconnected mine before and although it logged a fault it didn’t show anything in dash and didn’t seem to impact anything else ?
Did t have have it unplugged for long so can’t be sure but think it would just disable it ?

I’m sure the thatcham standard prohibits system failure through loss of one component ?

I wondered about the Thatcham side too. If lower spec vans are Cat 2, seems the addition of the motion sensors in the highline/SE spec make it qualify as a Cat 1. But if you disable them using the B pillar button, are you potentially rendering your insurance void, with a respect to a theft claim if your van walks. If that is, you've declared a Cat 1 on your policy.

Surely a simple fix would be to put some tape over the sensors then take it off when not required.

Are they ultrasonic sensors? Think ultrasound my pass through tape. But sticking something like a coin over them may block them out. Not sure. Worth experimenting with though.

I think you can disable the interior motion sensor with VCDS.

You can disable them in VCDS, I've done that on a friends T6 as they have dogs in the back and have removed the top bulkhead section. I'll need to plug in to see the option again but it was very obvious.

on my startline. driver door flashes a red light. but to side off driver door. there is a switch for cab alarm. do I have to switch this on at night. or all time. the book is not very clear on this. so I haven't used it yet

The button deactivates internal sensors if you eg leave dog in van
To use you need to have drivers door open then activate button (it lights up) then shut door and lock on keyfob, van will lock and alarm will arm but without internal motion sensors, it will still activate perimeter and tow away etc if you have full factory alarm system (there’s more than one type and fill alarm is not standard on startline)

thankyou that sounds much clearer

I have a high line transporter t6 which I’m camping in and have couple of questions.

When we camp and need security but just want the van locked and sensors off we use central Locking button by drivers door and nothing else and this is fine.

But with dog in van we can’t use the deactivation button on the b pillar by drivers side door as this requires opening the drivers door first and we use a silver screen and the side door when camping so can’t open drivers door easily to reset this.

I’ve read when leaving van you can just use the key in the drivers lock to lock the vehicle but not activate motion sensors etc - is this true?

Also Where are the motion sensors physically located in the van as I can’t see them anywhere?

Thanks

There’s only one sensor (unless rear sensor is factory specced as an extra) and it’s located in front roof console by interior light, there are two small grills one has sensor and other Bluetooth microphone

you mean you leave the dog in the van whilst your not? sorry dont understand the problem

Yes we occasionally leave the dog in the van for very short periods and the missus also does not want alarm going off when we leave van unattended on campsite.
(She thinks high winds etc may set it off )

Silver screen prevents me opening thr drivers door and using button on b pillar.
We always exit via side door hence the problem.

So is there an alternative ?

I thought double press of lock fob does disabled the dead locking?
Are you saying that double press locks van, enables alarm only and nothing else?

If it does then that’s perfect
