Another vote for these, 215 65 16 XL 102, I put 4000 miles on a set in Feb, -4 to 22c, fully laden camper conversion, barely worn, bags of grip, very comfy and quiet, I ran them at 54-56 psi
And another, great tyres, they seem to grip really well whatever the road surface and are significantly quieter than the Contis that came off to make way for them. I'm running them on Devonports at 40psi.

Choice is partly dependent on the wheel rim diameter. 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20"
SUV versions of tyres are more suited to off road mud and stones than normal car/van spec version. Tread is designed to clear mud and stones out better and sidewall is thicker to withstand ruts etc.

than normal car/van spec version

Agree about wheel rim diameter, this does limit choice with Agilis. However, the Agilis (van) version is also obviously designed for the same tough surfaces and has sidewall protection with unique kerbing shields protection against sidewall damage.

The tyre compound is also tougher apparently on the Agilis.

Difference only applies to the car version. SUV and Agilis both have this capability.

Not disagreeing about Agilis.
Nokian and Michelin 17" 103 load ratings come in both standard and SUV versions. (haven't fully investigated other diameter fittings) As it's for a Campervan conversion these usually have 18" rims making a much more resricted range available.
I did find that 235/55/18 SUV tyres with a load rating of 104 had a bigger range of manufacturers. Lowered vans could be a problem with tyre clearance though.

Michelin CrossClimate + on
235/55/17
Nice and quiet compared to the cargo vector they replaced.
Untested in bad weather yet . Grippy in this spring weather
Hi. I am just about to change my standard 215 tyres and want all seasons 235. How have you found yours and do you have spacers fitted. My van has 20mm front and 30mm back at the minute but don’t won’t then to stick out to much It’s also also on B14. Any advice would be good
Cheers

These tyres are brilliant. They are quiet and grippy !
My fuel economy has improved also .
Pricey but worth it . Can’t say how many miles I will get yet ! Looking at getting the same on the family Mitsubishi Outlander when they are due a change .

I have 25 mm spacers all round and 40mm lowering springs for reference.

Could anyone tell me what the maximum pressure is indicated on the Crossclimates? Should be moulded into the side wall. Thanks

Well I think I’m sold on them.
I didn’t realise how much wheel size and choice effects things.
Thank you

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has fitted the Nokian 255/55/R18 on a 40mm dropped H&R spring set up?
If so do the tyres rub or scuff anywhere on the arches?

I have bought the van converted with the springs already fitted from the previous owner, I need new tyres and wanted to go with these Nokian's as an in-between tyre (Off road-On road) Basically a bit more grip for wet conditions and wet grass. But not a gnarly off road tread.

Im contemplation VB air suspension so i guess this will give some clearing over the top area of the wheels/arches.
But Im not sure on the full lock position or anywhere else for that matter, as to if there tyres will rub.
However I won't be doing the VB for a while so need to know if this 40mm drop and the bigger tyre combo will work.

Thank you all in advance for any advice or help your can give me on this

Cheers

These are big tyres, I think you would need 15mm spacers all round, and you would need to re-mould the inner plastic arches with a heat gun; and they would probably still catch on biggish bumps in the road. The +7.5% up gearing really does alter the drivability of the van imo. But they do look very good; maybe a 20mm drop is the max drop for these tyres.

Have you thought about 235/55/18's
Nokian Tyres / All Season SUV 4x4 / Nokian Weatherproof SUV - 235/55 R18 104V XL TL Fuel Eff.: C Wet Grip: A NoiseClass: 1 Noise: 69dB All Season - Four Season - All Weather - SUV/4x4 Tyres - 18" R18" - 235/55/18, 235/55R18

Brilliant tyre; I would go with 25mm spaces for these tyres.

Spacer sizes based on standard VW wheel ET-Off Sets

Thank you @chriscroft

Maybe i will take a look at the 235/55/18's
Its a catch 22 as i need new tyres but need to be sure they will work on the 40mm drop i have, at least until i get the VB which should raise my van 20mm or so.

Are you aware if the 235 option will defiantly work with the 15mm spacers?
Or is it something i will just have to try and hope for the best?

Thank you

I would go with the 25mm spacers on 235/55/18 tyres, to push the tyre away from the inner part of the plastic wheel arch liner.
Would it defiantly work?, Yes, in my experience, all other things being equal
If you were to hit a hump in the road; at high speed; very heavily loaded; and cause the van to "bottom out", you may just get a slight rubbing noise, but it would not damage anything including the tyre; and it's very unlikely to happen, if at all, in my experience.

@chriscroft

Thank you for this info

My local supplier has tracked down the Nokian's but they are a special order (from i think Belgium)
So I have to pay up front for them, hence why Im concerned about the sizing pre ordering.

Very grateful for the help and advice

Thank you
Dave

hello @chriscroft
Just one other question if your able to help me please?
Is there any benefit to the 235/55/18 Nokian's weatherproof, opposed to the 235/50/18?
Im very concerned about rubbing and none of the tyre companies will give me a definitive answer as to what will fit/work on my lowered 40mm set up. I thought maybe the 50 would be a comprise that may get over the problem. Unless you say specifically the 55 is better for whatever reason?
Thank you again for your advice and time
Best
Dave

The 235/50/18 is actually the correct OEM size rolling radius for a T6, so there is no increase in gearing/clearance/ride height. They have a load rating of 101, so you need to check that is OK for your rear axel max gross load (I doesn't work for a T32). Given that the most common VW T6 OEM size on 18" wheels is 255/45/18 i.e same rolling radius but 20mm wider overall; this size isn't a compromise its a OEM size; the same.

There are plenty of people on this forum with a 60mm/70mm drop using standard tyres, and they work fine from all reports. The 235/55/18 is about 12mm closer to the top of the wheel arch than a OEM sized 235/50/18. Given you are a 40mm drop; you are still 20mm saver than a 70mm drop. But it's narrower than a 255/45/18 which is important.

So go with 235/50/18 if you want to stick with OEM rolling radius (subject to loadings)
Go with 235/55/18 if you want a better looking arch/tyre relationship imo; or you have a heavy rear axel.

I wouldn't hesitate going with 235/55/18 and 25mm spacers.
