Anything you wish you'd thought of???

I've been looking at conversions and wondering, is there anything you'd wish your thought of when spec'ing a conversion?
Could be something you wish you'd had done professionally rather than yourself, Something you rather have had fitted during the conversion for access reasons or whatever.
I wish I had also installed the LED disc lights that I installed in the main area in the rear area with a switch so that when I opened the barn doors in the dark I could turn a light on to see what im doing with the stuff below the rear shelf. I am still going to do this but it will now be a pain running the cables

Oh and I wish I had installed a flexible reading light at the rear of the overhead cabinet that can be used when lying in the bed. That wont be as much of a pain to sort though

Hi

My Kombi is due in for its full camper conversion next month and I discussed with the converter today whether or not it's worth having the additional rear quarter windows fitted.

What's everyone's thoughts on this, opt for the additional windows or stick with the standard kombi setup?

Thanks
I too have a kombi and currently in the process of conversion, personally I prefer the look of the kombi windows rather than Windows in the rear just reminds me of a people carrier

The only thing I really wish I had thought about more was ventilation at night. If I had I would probably have gone for a sliding window in the sliding door as well as the off side by the sink and hob.

The converter we used had already thought a lot about lighting. There is a nice row of leds at floor level below the seat, these are connected to the door switches on the van so come on when you open the door. All the lights can be individually controlled via a remote control also which is brill, when you come back to the van in the dark, you just need to remember to take the remote with you.

There are also led lights in the rear tailgate that come on when you open it.

Theres a louvered slip in panel available for the sliding window as well guys...

Hi @Oldrat we have 3 windows in the elevating roof 2 of which have mesh so plenty of ventilation. The problem comes when our son is sleeping in the roof and wants them closed to keep the light out.

You get slot in mosquito nets in a Cali for both sliding windows. Very very handy.

Now that's an excellent idea. Does anyone know if there is a similar solution for a converters transporter?

Would also love mosquito nets for the sliding doors and rear door if anyone has any ideas?

Thanks

Reimo do screens to fit. You can also buy the material off eBay and make your own custom ones to fit if you want

In hindsight, i should have brought a LWB Ducato:D

even with a Midroof LWB, its still quite a limited space, although its a nice driving van

I went with the T6 as i live in a city apartment and i can just get under the 2.25 mtr height barrier.

Problem is that i went and brought an industrial unit and now i have 6 mtr height limit.

Imagine and extra 200mm width and 1.6 meter length when camping:rolleyes:

but the T6 doesn't feel as though you are driving a white box.

Is it an sca? There's also a long vent you can open on the front panel of the tent right at the top, in fact you are supposed to keep it open when sleeping as it stops condensation forming

Yes it is an SCA. I had noticed the mesh vent on the front from the outside but keep forgetting to have a look from the inside. It must be under a flap on the inside.

I will go and have a look now before I forget again.

Thanks

yep thats it, a velcro flap at the top running the width of the tent

Thanks all, yes the convertor has recommended a false window on the other side to even things up. Think I'm more likely just to stay with the standard kombi look to save money but take your point about the darkness and the need for extra light.
Don't forget that no one can see both sides of the van at the same time so you could consider having an additional window on the near side rear quarter and leave the offside as it is. If you can't live with it get a blank fitted to the offside rear quarter at a later stage. Just a thought.

Personally I would get a blank fitted from the start, they are not that expensive. I saw a van the other day that did not have a window panel at the back on one side but did the other and it just looked odd, unbalanced. Maybe that's my OCD though :):)

In my old van I missed not having a switch for the lights just inside the door, I've fitted a two way switch and a USB socket in this conversion. The person sleeping on that side will be able to charge their phone whilst in bed, and use it when driving!

I fitted two led's in the Tailgate in my old van so I can see when i'm putting stuff in and out the rear of the van, essential i think and a simple addition if you remember before you carpet everywhere.
