What widths are you running @T6180 on the banded steels? Are they from Tamar? I'm speaking to them at the moment reference wheels for my california after I have the b14 fitted next week

Think there 8.5 front 9 rear I wish I'd gone a bit wider tbh

I agree with Mark.
Setting the offset at exactly the same position, but adding an extra 1" will make these perfect, giving it that extra depth, potentially without any excessive poke.
Same goes for the banded 19" steels we are both running currently.
Still love both the 18s and 19s in banded steels though.

Both his 18s, and the current 19s are built by Duchy banded steels.

Interesting experience with my new banded steels this morning. Took them down to be fitted at my local wheel place and the chap looked at me like I was mad and wouldn't touch them.

His issue seemed to be banding in general as well as powder coating the parts of the wheel that interface with the bolts/hub. He reckoned that heat generated in braking could soften the powder coat and cause issues with the fit of the wheel.

Anyone had this reaction when getting banded and powdercoated steels fitted? Will try somewhere else this afternoon but was just wondering and it has given me second thoughts... :(

I've never had any fitting issues with my tyre shop. They just do as I ask.
As for the powder coating, it's wise to run a file around the bolt holes to knock off any powder build up, and just a general re-check of the bolts after a few days if they are fresh powder. Other than those checks, nothing has ever gone wrong with my Banded 19s, or any wheels i've had powder coated over the years.

My suggestion is to avoid the big name tyre fitters, and use an independent that's more likely to use a little common sense.

only issue I had with banded steels after they where fitted was I couldn't get them back off!!! they were such a tight fit that only a large hammer could get them off. I did as @Tourershine mentioned, I checked the torque on the nuts every few days and I filed out the centre bore once I got them off.

As for banded steels, is it better to source the wheels first and then get a place to band them or just buy them already done?

I would like some 19's ideally.

Take it from myself and @T6180, buy them supplied, built and finished. It will save you a lot of trouble, as Mark will agree...

Give Duchy banded steels a call. He's never failed us.

Defo on using Duchy, but get your order in as 19s are a pain to build and also take a lot longer than 18s

Thanks @Tourershine and @T6180. Good to know yours are all fine. Mine were done by Duchy too and went on today in the end. New set of original T6 bolts required first as obviously the alloys it came with have different bolts. Other than that no issues and the indepent tire place had no issues fitting them.

Look and drive brilliantly - happy days!

To add to all of this for info, if anyone is putting banded steels on a California, don't go for 9.5 rear as they will foul the sliding door card. Thankfully buying from someone like Duchy meant he's happy to have the 9.5 rear returned and make me an 8.5 front 9 rear setup for the cost of deliveries.
