Barn Door Halogen to Tailgate LED Rear Lights - pinout

has anybody had the bulb out warning on the dash after this mod from standard lights?

Yep I did... Only because I didn't push the purple lock tab back after fitting the crimps. The tab stopped the connector being pushed fully into the light.

So no coding is required? Just a case of getting the right plugs to fit?

Would this be the same configuration for the new T6.1 rear leds?

mines a tailgate highline and already had led number plate lights but got bulb out warning when led rears were fitted, so turned off diagnostics for tail and brake lights.
Byte 19 bit 6 & 7

Since fitting VW T6 LED tail lamps with standard bulbs on reversing and indicators I have been getting a bulb out dash warning when the light switch is in Auto or I switch to Side Lights during the day. This is without activating reverse, indicators or brakes.
I definitely don’t have a bulb out and all lights are working as they should. There is no visible wire damage and all connections are good, made with new pins, crimped and soldered.
I have THQ V2 head lamps with the adaptive looms that have worked without fault.
The dash fault lamp resets with a key switch reset and is not detected by Carista.
I see forum content mentioning fitting resistors to the indicator loom but I don’t have any issue with indicators double flashing.
I saw a thread the other day mentioning that internal lights and side lights are linked, I have all LED internal lights so I’m wondering if this may have some influence on the matter??
Has anybody else seen this and any ideas how to resolve?
I don’t want to code out the bulb failure warning as it’s a useful feature.

I read the second post regarding tail lights, I haven’t done a barn door to tailgate conversion and I don’t have a tow bar.
I have simply replaced the standard non LED tail lights for standard VW tail lights and that was to be plug and play as far as I was concerned with no coding, just the cross connection for Reversing and Fog.
I have fitted LED reversing bulbs but have eliminated this by fitting the standard bulbs back and the problem remains.
Carista doesn’t show a fault and the dash warning clears after driving for a while.
Is this quote from @mmi relevant?
If coding is required will it disable the tail light bulb failure detection?

It seems that VW made also some other coding changes related to the LEDs (not seen documented), namely byte 27 bits 2-4 are set to "1" on all van having T6 LEDs also in the rear. In the vans with regular bulbs (barn door) those bits are "0".

Also seems to be byte 18 is "73" with full LEDs (tailgate) and "72" with front LEDs only (barn door).

I'm not sure if the changes are relevant. Anyways, will put out a more refined post later...

Mine worked no bother even with led reverse lights? Is it a coincidence and there's an issue with the headlights?
No I’ve checked every function and all working.

This code sorted mine out. Whethwr it coded the tailgate LED numberplate lights or the OEM LED tail lamps, I don’t know.
But the error light that would appear once the sidelights or headlights were switched on has now gone.
Good luck.

Hi all.

I’m changing to OEM LED tail lights. The wiring for the fog/reverse is done but I’d like to use resistors to remove the rapid indicator flash.

Where is the best place to mount the resistors and how?

Thanks in advance for your help.
