Barn Door Halogen to Tailgate LED Rear Lights - pinout

Hi. First rime
Posting so please be kind. I have an 18 plate T6 highline with tailgate. I want to upgrade from non-LED to LED lights from transporter HQ. I’m OK with all the advice on re-wiring. Just need help knowing exactly how to run a two-core cable between the left and right hand connector plugs. Is is better to go under (down behind the bumper) or over (up and around the tailgate interior)?
Many thanks.
You wont need to do any wiring if your get thq lights, its only when you get oem led lights that you need to change wiring

Thanks Dayoster. I was hoping to join up the left and right units to get left and right reverse lights. I read in another thread this is possible if you link up both units with an additional wire. Will check tomorrow (weather permitting) to see if you’re right.
Cheers.

Ignore me. I thought this was the led headlight thread

I did exactly this. I ran two wires up the D pillar and across the rear top. I used to have oem halogen and swapped to full THQ LED well worth the upgrade for actually being able to see reversing!

Just retrofitted the T6.1 LEDs onto my 2020 T6.1.
The information in this tread was invaluable! So thankyou all! It was a bit confusing at points as my wire colors seem to differ from other people's, but I'm putting it down to T6/T6.1 differences. Managed to work it all out and get them working! Which is a bonus.

The indicators seem to be working fine with no issues, although i do have an error for the rear side lights. Do I need a resistor of some sort to sort this out?20220731_153415.jpg

Also, here's my very rudimentary wiring schematic if it's of any use to anyone. This is for a T6.1 with halogens going to T6.1 leds.

The asterisk denotes the majority colour of the wire. Also to note, I've got the fog/reverse switched on the RHS. Doh!

Just come across an issue!

My brake lights seem to be coming on with my side lights! Can anyone see any issues with my wiring that might cause this cross connection?

@Pauly might be able to help? or advise on the correct 6.1 lighting colours, he helped me with switching T6 halogen to LED

Not really looked into the 6.1 conversion as thought others had already documented it ?
I have a 6.1 now so happy to drop the rear lights tonight and note all the wire colours

If its a T6 you just need to swap the connectors to a different one and they will work, you also have the option to run a couple wires into the roof and connect the additional fog light/reverse light that the LED units have

Thanks @Pauly.
My van is a T6 and I installed the Transporter HQ V3 lights plus the smoked nlack fears. I asked Transporter HQ if I could run wires as you mention, but the said it wasn't possible. I don't know if their connectors are compatable. Is it possible hou could send me a photo of the connectors I need, and will compare them to the connectors fitted to my rear lights.

Halogen plug has one row of six pins
LED plug has two rows pf three pins

@david173 - What wiring mods need to be done to replace halogen with led lights?
for a T6 the plugs are different so you need to use a pin removal tool to swap the plugs over really easy to do.
if you want reverse and fogs both sides (standard halogen has reverse one side only, and one fog on the other) you need to run two wires up between the lights to tap into the retrospective feeds. I ran them up the d pillars and over the top.

Thanks @Pauly.

did you get the transporter HQ LED ones for halogen fitment? as they only have single reverse and single fog. you need to select the option on the Thq website saying you van has OEM Led fitment then swap the plugs over and run the extra wires.

Hey Gents, I'm about to swap my rears out but... I only have 5 wires in my connector. Pin 1 is empty on both sides. Does anyone have the pin out for that config, please. And what am I missing light wise?

What van and what lights are changing from and to ?

This thread swaps between 6 and 6.1 vans/lights and the wiring is different

Hi Pauly, I'm a 2017 T6 panel van converted. Startline 102 base. So all standard halogens.
I bought the LED "E 3" lights, as I call them. So was hoping to do the swap.
