I wonder if false readings of position are actually the root cause of a lot of these issues?
Two weeks on, and the repair is still working, fingers and toes crossed. Personally, I wouldn't trust this delicate type of repair to a garage, best doing this thing yourself and take your time.Weety this is very interesting.
You have gone to a lot of effort hopefully this will help a lot of people out as have had quite a few people having problems going past the stop point.
Nice one

I reckon so, the motor I opened up was packed full of grease, I reckon when the motors get hot, the grease melts and smears over the potentiometer giving false readings.I wonder if false readings of position are actually the root cause of a lot of these issues?
Get yourself a decent borescope from amazon and use it to investigate before approaching a garage.Hey folks, with horrible irony my 6.1 Caravelle has just started making some odd valve/servo chattering noises behind the dash (factory warranty ends this month) and I was wondering if this sounded familiar to anyone who's had this issue, pics on this thread:
Cheers LeeSo I managed to fix my heater only blowing cold today after reading this thread quickly identified the plastic thing had snapped.
Contacted @Tony P who promptly sent me a new 3D printed one out.
I have to say a massive thank you to @Tony P and @Rslad for all their help and advice on how to get this pig out and back on. It was a right nightmare to do but after following their advice it’s now sorted.
Now I know how to do it if anyone wants any help with theirs, don’t ring me…..

Send your number via pm and delete it from your post mateHi yes still have some in stock I don’t know if it’s a universal part for the air flow actuator it’s purpose is to change the hot and cold supply.
Its easier to contact me on 07880620367 as I don’t get notifications for email and don’t check that often.
Regards Tony
I've just had the same diagnosis. VW want £500 to replace the arm and motor. :-(Hi Tony,
In the end I took the van to VW Robinson’s motor group, after a couple of distressing phone calls and quotes the diagnosis was motor control arm broken at top of heater box therefore needed to replace the hot/cold motor and housing.
not cheap but they had the van so went with it....hopefully yours will be something easier and cheaper to fix
That’s cheap, have heard stories of people paying 1KI've just had the same diagnosis. VW want £500 to replace the arm and motor. :-(
