A broken aux’ belt can take out the cambelt if wraps around the crankshaft pulley and wrecks the lower guard. The mech is talking sense and the service advisor needs to find another vocation.Hi all
My 2018 102 has the same noise. Had a health check on it on Saturday and the tech recommends it gets changed however the service advisor seems to think I should run it till it fails...... Erm!?
The van has 2 years extended warranty but my local service dept don't seem interested.
May have to travel to Preston to get the repair done!
Call VW Assist, I believe you will get priority booking from what I’ve read on here before. So, after a week of commuting the noise has definitely got a lot worse. It doesn't even go quiet after warm up.
Van still has 2 years extended warranty left so I phoned vw van centre Manchester and they said they can only fit me in on the 21st October!
I'm very handy with the tools and often do all mechanical work in mine/wife's car. Should I just do the aux belt and tensioner myself? Would it void warranty?
Cheers
If it started at RevA that’s 14 revisions, hopefully it’s to improve reliability not to reduce cost.Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problem squeal on my 2017 T6. Just ordered a new part from Germany. The latest revision for the auxilary belt tensioner is 04L145299L. There is a revision M, however this is for 2021+ dated vehicles.
Ah, VW elves…..wider picture thinking?!! Good luck with that!Hi
Just took my 67 plate T6 into the garage for a cam belt and water pump change and asked them to do the aux belt at the same time as I was getting a whistling noise from it. When I took it in I asked them to check over whether it was just the aux belt that needed changing or anything else. I’ve just spoken to them and they now say it needs a new tensioner. Sounds fair enough but they want £270 to replace it. Does that sound fair? I asked them to look at it all together to limit time and cost but it sounds like they’ve done the rest of the work and only just thought about the tensioner when I asked them specifically… just wondered if by doing it this way it’s cost me more? Thanks in advance
Not VW - a specialist vw independent garage…Ah, VW elves…..wider picture thinking?!! Good luck with that!
Nope, I think they need to explain their costs given they had everything out at the time and it was more efficient to do it as you requested!
Apologies for casting aspersions on VW. To be honest, that an indie made such a schoolboy error needs even more explaining! Not VW - a specialist vw independent garage…
Good input, thank youI'd imagine that there is a bit of efficiency in doing it all in one go, but I don't think it is a big efficiency saving - it's not like the water pump + aux pump combo.
I eventually got my aux belt and tensioner done by a local garage for £179, which was over £100 than a VW van service centre (not a dealer) wanted.
Thanks- that’s what I thought. I’ll try to have a word with the garage tomorrow. Not overly impressed by what’s meant to be an independent vw specialistThe aux belt runs on the tensioner…. it would’ve made sense to replace the whole kit while it’s apart?
Note to self..... read all replies and original post properly! I'm such a dum ass.My pv has extended warranty so has been changed gratis, I did however enquire with the parts department and they quoted me £107 for the tensioner and belt supply only.
£163 labour costs ouch.
Typical vw move. Because you already had the vehicle booked for a timing belt an water pump they will treat the auxiliary belt and tensioner as a separate job and charge accordingly.
