Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

My local independent VW specialist in Basingstoke has just quoted me £499 (incl VAT) so my van is booked in for next week.

Tell them to Chuck a aux belt in for free to lol
I’ve got a proper squeak from cold start which clears about 1 min after starting so I’ve asked them to replace the aux belt and any tensioners/rollers that are worn. They said they will do that for the cost of parts, I’ll wait to see what turns up on the bill!!

Not a T6 but, for rough comparison, I had the same job done on my Audi Q5 early last year at an Audi main dealer and they charged me £541 inc. VAT. Part of that deal was free MOTs for as long as I owned the car but I've no idea whether that was an Audi deal or specific to the dealer - I suspect they did it on the basis that they always find something extra to 'recommend' at the MOT and a lot of suckers have the 'recommended' work done by them at the sane time).

Given that VWUK has set a different service limit (replacement) for the timing belt from the rest of Europe has anybody gone down the following route at service time?
Refuse the renewal of the belt but request a belt inspection (at additional cost), inspection results logged in the service record as would be done in mainland Europe.

Do you know what the replacement guide is for Europe ? Miles age etc

Ok, when my van went in for its last service I asked for a cam belt. They told me its not due until 130k miles so that makes sense.

What age / milage is your van, did they give you a time interval?

My van just sailed past its 4th birthday and with only 18,000 miles on the clock, there's no way I'm changing the cam belt.

Now I get to wonder, (as a fit and healthy 51 year old), whether the odds of my cambelt snapping over the next 12 months are greater than me dying of Covid19.
