Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

Does anyone know if it gets a full refill of fresh coolant if the pump done at the same time?
Should do.

But would be good to see an invoice for the detailed breakdown.

I've got mine scheduled for a couple of weeks time. (4yrs old 50k miles)

New garage this time.

2nd all in check.

T&WP.

Full service.

Told 7 years or 105,000km by vw in Australia.
Doesn't make sense that its different in different countries.
Same belts, same engines by vw Germany.

so sticking my head out here . . . .

++++++++++++

i was under the assumption that the reason was . . . . . .

that the water pump on these engines were prone to leaking via its bearing. . .

which would cause the bearing to fail. . .

which would put strain on the rubber timing belt,

and eventually loose a few teeth. . . and cause the belt to fail . . . causing engine damage.

so . . .

i thought that the short interval was to get the belt & water pump replaced before it had a chance to start leaking and break the belt.?

More preventative maintenance. . .

I cant remember where i heard this from?

and more than happy to be told otherwise . .

Would there be any giveaway signs of this progress of failure before the belt succumbed? Really need to hear from someone whose belt has failed, prematurely or otherwise.

So, just for info (on my 2016 150 T6) at 5 years old. I just had service and belt and water pump done at my local trusted independent who I've used for 20 years
cost breakdown (all VW parts)
cam belt kit £156
water pump £125
aux belt £30

8 litres Castrol oil £84
also brake fluid change, pollen filter, air filter, anti freeze, oil filter etc
5 hours labour

£993 incl VAT

garage is next door (so time wasted to collect £0)

Like I said in earlier post had water pump failure on an Astra van about 15 years ago! No warning signs what so ever

I think I read it on here somewhere, but anyway it's why I did mine at 5 years even though it only had 42K miles on it. I was more worried about the water pump failing and the consequences than the cambelt.

@Dellmassive yes I’ve read that before about the water pump failing leading to damage on the cam belt etc….. but surely that should apply to t6 worldwide.

It leaves us all in the position of either getting it done and feel ripped off or not getting it done and having the stress

I had a major service, cambelt, water pump and dsg service done by an indy garage in Horsham, just over £800 all in.

@jono14 i would and can recommend VW Van-Tech in Uckfield. water pump, timing belt and aux belt MOT minor service adding my Supplied Castrol Edge oil and cleared the air bag warning light ( yes i knowingly turned the ignition on with the seats removed ... but i had to move the van ) @ was only 4 years old and 19,000 miles £618.00 back in October 2020 adding that £97.07 was the dreaded V.A.T GRRRRR

Totally worth the peace of mind. and they will get any work from me in the future and my annual oil changes .

I had a quote from them as well actually. Found them through this forum. I think they quoted me between £900-£1000. My van is a 66 plate with 40,000 miles.
