Cambelt + Water Pump Replacement - Official guidance

Have been getting everything in place for a friendly vw mechanic to do my 4 half year old 102 timing belt. Seemingly this engine has an electric water pump so no need to change it.
Lots of owners saying they are getting their water pumps changed ,dont know if the 150 engine is different.

If it has one then it is an auxiliary pump in addition to the mechanical (cam belt driven) pump. Definitely change it while you have it apart.

??? Looks belt driven to me?

Silly question, are all T6 diesel engines the same basic block? I think my 65plate T6 Euro5 has engine code CXX(could be CAA)

Loz just sent me cambelt change out procedure and drawings to. The water pump does not have a gear attached to it. You can see the electrical connection point.

Thanks Loz. After reading procedure think I will get it done by vw mechanic.

Am still getting used to how this site works. If you message Loz he could send you a photo, diagram of the route belt goes. The pulley on the water pump is like the idler pulley.

No problem. I've just subscribed as there is lots to learn!

And the image I found shows a toothed pulley....albeit separated from the pump in an exploded diagram.
Either way, if it's got one, change it!

@Loz ... The image I pulled from the vwparts page using the model search. Is it an electric pump? I've never heard of that before.

The pump with the toothed belt is a manual pump with an electrical valve, plus there are 3 other electrical pumps for, heating circulation, charge air cooler and egr.

Up date on VW van centre prices.
Been to my local VW van centre who have given fixed price of £534 inc to fit Cambelt kit (all rollers and tensioners) and water pump. And would check if auxiliary belt and tensioner need to be replaced, possible cost £40 ish.

I think that procedure is for the Euro 6 engine. My experience with the Euro 5 is very similar however adjusting the cam and fuel pump pulleys is done by slackening off three fasteners on each. It looks like they have gone for a cheaper set up on the Euro 6. Although I've done the Euro 5 without the locking tools (you can use drill bits for cam and fuel pump alignment), the crank locking tool is definitely worth getting as the crank can move when fitting the belt. One thing I always do irrespective of what timing marks are on the engine is make my own reference marks with a paint pen so I know exactly where everything was before anything was touched.
