Can start/stop be switched off?

Thanks! I was curious because here in Finland incomplete readiness would be a failure in MOT :speechless:
Good info but is this now actually a thing or just a principle?

I usually take at least one of our three vehicles to Finnish version of MOT once a year (and 2/3 already this year) but I’ve yet to see them ever plugging anything to diagnostic port. I think so far the interpretation has been ”no visible warning lights is a pass.”

Edit: sorry for twisting to Finnish peculiarities, but ofc that’s of particular interest to me :)

I've just ordered one. It has to be worth trying at that price.
Definitely!

I sourced and fitted one from Aliexpress early last year and it has been faultless - fitted in minutes, and I have printed a copy of the flowchart which I can pull out at MoT time to set it to 'service mode' - which basically causes a reversion to factory behaviour (i.e. stop/start is activated at ignition).

I took a look at the above link, and the flowchart looks similar to the one I printed last year, so other options that can be selected using the flowchart instructions (a sequence of button presses) should be to always have the stop/start function disabled at ignition or to recall last known state - my preferred option.

I only recently sourced one from ebay / European seller and has been faultless as well. I saw aliexpress ones for less €/£ but the delivery times from ebay fit my free time better. Technically they’re probably pretty much the same.

Effective on diesel cars registered after 1.9.2016 - just had first one, and indeed either a OBD-certificate from garage or will be plugged in for some extra 40€.

Ok, thanks - I guess that explains

I guess I need to dig deeper in my pockets when 3/3 velle is due later in the fall

Edit: but I’ll promise to be challenging them some for the benefit of the added cost. The cost of any diagnostic system and time will be covered basically instantly with 40€ a pop

Ok, stupid question time. My 2012 Passat has start stop which can be disabled with a button on the dash. My 2017 Transporter Shuttle has the same button next to the Climatic controls.

Do 6.1 Transporters have start stop but no button to switch it off?

Yes my 6.1 has the disable button but you have to push it every time you start the engine. And this is what some people don’t like.

Ah, ok I thought new emissions regs had meant the removal of the button to take the option away.
