Climatic A/C blowing hot air to rear pax, no A/C

Searching around the internet this problem seems to blight Shuttles and Caravelles, I posted this thread hoping to get a bit further with it but I’m just going to stick mine on to main vents and leave it alone.

Mate. Thanks again. Honestly, really appreciate all the info. Frustrating for sure and not 100% sure how best to get it sorted but that helps so much to know the specifics around it.

If only when it failed it defaulted to the articulating vents instead eh?! Surely whenever you turn the 'rear' on people generally want the air back there and if it went to the articulating ones then it can be individually controlled from there anyway, so definitely frustrating it fails the other way.

I think after all the investigating and work you've done, and replacing the motor and it still failing, that sticking the flap into that single position makes total sense. I personally don't want it to function in any other way. Have to see if I can get someone to look at this for me

You’re welcome @monsieurblack

I have just sorted mine out, with the motor removed I jammed a load of blutac around the gear wheel and then put some duck tape over the top, all sorted now. The control panel still allows you to turn the roof vents on/off between that and the foot level vents because there is another servo motor in the rear quarter for that selection.

You can probably get away with just popping off the horizontal trim to gain enough access and then the only tricky bit is removing the two T20 torx screws, I’ve got a mini ratchet with a torx bit which allows it to operate at a right angle. With the motor removed it is then simple, it shows no error codes on the van either.

Be aware though that even with the vents working you don’t have A/C in the rear, on the coolest setting it just blows ambient temp air around. To get A/C in the rear you need the posher digital controlled climate system, it’s not something you can retrofit.

I had a go at this, this afternoon. The air would only vent out of the window, edge vents.
Removed the rear upper plastic and D pillar covers. Then prized the roof down enough to get at the motor drive.

For reference, the D pillar covers are poppers at the rear and grab fit which slot in, towards the window.

Then I removed the motor screws are nearest you, left, and behind, right.

My cog wheelhad not broken, but I presume had just become detached from the lever which changes the vents. We tried it out, changing the settings over to watch the wheel move. Then tried moving the lever manually to ensure that worked. Finally synced the system up, centre and centre setting on the control panel and replaced the motor drive unit.

Hope this is of help.

Hi all, my directional controls seem to be working correctly, but definitely no air con in the rear.

From what I've read with the dials I've got here it's simply not fitted - 2 van centres seem to think it is Its been in today but they didn't get round to looking at it , the other van center wants to do an air con service for £160 and if that doesnt fix it will fix the rest under warranty.

Gut is telling me I haven't got AC in the rear, and not even the van centers seem to know!

Where else could I look/check or is it pretty clear from the kit I have please?

Thanks

That’s the same as mine, definitely no aircon in the rear. At best it will just blow ambient air but it will heat for use in the winter.

During summer it is all but useless as the ambient air runs next to the steel roof panel so actually gets warmer on its way to the exit vents. You need the digital display climate control to get aircon in the rear.

The van centre that wanted to recharge the system at your cost are talking codswallop, I’d be wary of any future work they recommend needs doing - I personally wouldn’t trust them if they can’t work out if there is aircon in the rear or not.

I have the same as Jamest6t32. And was wondering if thier was an after market fix. Instead of spending circa 2k to get the aircon installed to the rear vents. As I've bought this van wanting to travel and with all the windows it gets very uncomfortable in the rear.
