Lol.... yeh. £13. Bin it. (Its prob 1.2A max)
Time for an upgrade.
A decent charger is way more than that.

Yeah I know, I bought it just to use as a trickle charger for one of the bikes in the garage. It does that job OK and has got me out of a flat battery situation a couple of times so it Has been worth every penny I spent on it. I’ll look at getting a VictronLol.... yeh. £13. Bin it. I went for the 15 Amp version On the basis that Starter and Leisure battery combined are almost 200Ah and wanted something that would charge them without taking too long. Found a very good deal of the charger and 2M extension cable for £135 which I thought was a good price and it is a UK version. I noticed that a lot of these for sale on line are EU versions. They have a 5 year warranty and I didn’t want to risk affecting the warranty by cutting the plug off and putting a UK one on.@Big.mac
which amp charger did you get? And sorry for the dumb question....does this charger work on stop/start batteries?
The Victron passed the ‘can it bring a completely dead battery back to life’ test. My son’s bike now has a full battery which starts the bike after having sat unused for 4 months. Another charger would not even start a charge cycle. My son is very pleased he doesn’t need to buy a new batteryTomorrow’s job is to see if it will bring my son’s motorcycle battery back to life. That will be a proper test
Thanks. Once I get started proper on the van I’ll start a thread with the conversion.I have a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger.... it charges and then if left connected keeps the battery conditioned by trickle feeding it.. I've not left it plugged in continuously for more than 5 or 6 weeks to be honest, but that's only because i've then used the van so disconnected it....
I've used it to keep the starter battery topped up... but it works on AGM's and will help with your starter battery if you ever need it charging or leave your van parked up for a long period of time, so may well come in use once your conversion is completed... good luck and post some pictures up when its done.
Thanks.victron smart would be my choice
Would a 5a charger be sufficient for a 200ah battery for overnight charging at a camp site? I see the victon that rover suggested offer 10a-20a ones? Tbh the likelyhood is we’ll avoid campsites like the plague if we can so not sure how much it’ll ever get used once the van is operational but like it to be sufficient if/when the need arrived. Should we deplete the battery to 100a it wouldn’t manage to charge it overnight.I have a CTEK MXS 5.0 charger.... it charges and then if left connected keeps the battery conditioned by trickle feeding it.. Yep, I was just looking at the 15a version of it. They do a IP65 version as well but it’s more expensive and a 10a IP65 is pretty much the same price as a 15a IP22. Not planning on sticking it out in the rain...might be worth a look... i have this under the drivers seat Victron 240 v / 12 v / 30 A smart Blue Smart IP22 Charger - Victron Energy
This is also a 30 A 12v power supply unit Step charges your 200AH AGM battery and storage Mode or runs the whole 12 v system so wont really drain your leisure battery while hooked up. it has blue tooth's to your phone app has a night mode and stays cool. you don't even need a battery if you only use hook ups.
Heres the Data sheet = https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-Blue-Smart-IP22-Charger-180-265-VAC-EN.pdf
and a good price from Travelvolts
a mains charger that could also work as a trickle charger until it all gets installed in the van?
Thanks Dilbert. Yes, I did think about the whole li-ion compatibility thang. Going to pull the trigger on the IP22 15a like yours. Thank you everyone. This is what we have: Blue Smart IP22 Charger - Victron Energy 15A should be plenty for an overnight charge but you can go bigger. Also, make sure you buy a charger that has a Lithium charge profile as you could well end up down that route in the future.
Victron make some nice kit so you can get the family of products for your charging needs. Blue smart versions work with the Victron Bluetooth app too.
Great idea, thanks.I have a 15Amp Victron. I use it purely as a mains charger but lots of folk use it for the hookup. It is waterproof so can be installed under the bonnet if required. It is a multi stage charger so will act as your trickle charger for now and can then be transplanted to the van at a later stage if required. I connect to my starter battery and it then charges both starter and leisure via the DC-DC charger.
