Could you recommend me a decent AGM battery charger?

I have one of those. You can leave it connected permanently according to the manual, as it has an intelligent charging cycle.
The low amps mode is for charging small capacity batteries. It will limit current itself, so no worries there.

Pete
Thanks Pete, 24/7 @ 7A it is.

Apologies if this is a daft question, but everyday is a school day.
I know that when being driven, the vehicle charges the leisure battery but if I was to keep a trickle charger on the main vehicle battery during down time (quite surprised at some of the above comments re the loss of charge from the vehicle battery over a relatively short period of time), does that then feed through to the leisure battery, or does the leisure one need its own separate charger?

That depends on what sort of leisure battery charger you have installed. The answer is likely to be yes though.

Funnily enough, this has recently been asked on this thread.
As Pete C said, it’s likely a yes. I’ve a Ring RSCDC30 which is voltage sensitive so that works in this situation.
Some of the ignition-live chargers may not.

Thanks. I have absolutely no idea what charger it has. I would find out if I ever get a trickle charger if it works, I guess.

Have a look wherever your leisure battery is and take and post some photos of the various bits there. Someone will be able to identify it.

Pete

Just a thought. The battery is an EFB+. Are the default AGM settings suitable? Thanks.

My understanding is that standard lead acid batteries and EFB batteries need the same charging profile. AGM are different and take a slightly higher voltage.
So go with "normal" setting.

I was under the impression that they were better with AGM settings but don’t know why I thought that!

Will set to normal.

i‘m guessing you have a converted camper so your leisure battery is an afterfit and not a VW option fit. In this case the converter will have fitted a supply/charger box, control panel and external hook up point? If you can photo these and or give the name/model we can help you.
if it is, as I suspect, a separate system then putting a charger on your vehicle battery whilst parked up will not charge the leisure battery.
however you will probably have an on board charger for the leisure battery which you can use by plugging in the hook up to your house mains.
on mine whilst it is laid up I have the leisure on charge vis hook up and a separate little Noco charger plugged into the internal 13amp sockets (powered from the hook up) and plugged into the cig lighter to charge/maintain vehicle battery.

It all depends on what system you have in place to charge your leisure battery. Most DC-DC chargers will do this. E.g. CTEK250SE does. If you can find the charger and take a photo and post here we’ll be able to advise.

I’ve got the ctek mxs 10 and the ctek 56-382 lead, for quick connection and release. Works a dream. I use it once a month to keep battery in good shape. Had it for over a year now with no issues.
