Dogs dinner or dream van?

This is showing as N1(so van speeds/spec) and not an M1 (people carrier)

If you are after a similar spec,

White, 17 reg, 6k miles, 5k cheaper

Actually....there’s a lot on Autotrader, at dealers that are cheaper.
If you intend on keeping a kayak inside, I take it you are talking about a play boat? Take it along and check it fits inside. I’d go with a Kombi with no rear quarter windows, just so it can’t be seen as easily.
I’ve always found the VW website good, the same van is actually cheaper on there

Just a thought - commercial vehicle road fund license currently £240 p.a. on a kombi, whereas a window van will attract higher car rates on this (not a commercial vehicle). If anyone buys a new one over £40K list, ouch! Hope I am right and not just being thick.

Just be aware the highline has extras that are not easily retrofitted like full sound deadening behind the dashboard, alarm, heated screen.
I'm sure there was a couple of others.

Bare in mind that a van with twin sliders is not ideal as a donor vehicle for a campervan if you or anyone else wanted to do this in the future. This can affect the price when you’re selling it (unless of course someone is specifically looking for twin sliders). I agree with others who say you could get a brand new Kombi Highline for similar money which is a route I would prefer. Surely you could still fit a kayak in a Kombi, with the seats folded if necessary.

Welcome to the forum.
I fit my Kayak in the back of my Kombi. I just take out the single seat in the rear and the boats slides in. Mines a 204 DSG Highline T32 in Blackberry with twin sliders and comfort dash.. It was an ex demo 3 mths old with a lot less miles and I paid similar money for it. Granted I don't have the wheels, bumper or LED's but I'd look around a bit more and see whats out there.
Also if you don't need or use the power then is it worth paying the extra for a 204? They are great and very fast but also heavy on fuel. I get around 32 mpg but i like the acceleration. If thats not important to you then a 150 will more than suffice.
It is a nice looking van but I agree with others, I'd be looking at least 4K off the price.

The permitted speed limits are determined by Body Type/unladen weight on the V5

Hi & welcome VA,
You will get better contributions from VW on a new van, i think is just changed to £1750 and the interest rate is 4.5% compared to used which is £750 contribution and 9% interest, double check with your dealers though, i would recommend shopping around once you have your required spec, you should be getting around 11%/13% discount of a new van, try this contact Mark Gretton VW Cheltenham 07772600860

Good luck:)

@Valdubvee when you go to see the van ask to see the V5, I say this because my van is a Startline and on the V5 it states on vehicle details line D.3 Model Transporter T28 ST-LN TDI BMT, ST-LN being Startline, this may clear up any indecision that it is actually a Highline and the dealer selling the van has got his details wrong.

On this subject , when I got my Highline it had been registered as a Startline and it did indeed state ST-LN on the book , I had a right job getting changed over to the correct HI-LN as all the paperwork had to go back to VW and I bought it pre registered so technically not the first owner !!

Wow. thanks guys - this advice has been incredibly helpful - Im bowled over by the great responses and its given me loads of food for thought - what a great forum! Came across it by accident and boy am i glad I joined!

Based on the comments received it I've decided to cool it on this van, actually lots of comments prompted me to check the vehicle value by putting the registration and mileage into Parkers - and it was scarily low (over £10k down) - and even if that wasnt accurate, its shows what any garage might say its worth the day after I buy it! So I've decided not to rush into this one and look around a bit more instead - lots of you suggested I could get something better and a bit more 'honest' by looking around, so Im spending a bit of time now doing that. There seem to be some really good vans out there its just a question of getting the spec I want.

Mind you its really easy to get hooked on this stuff isnt it? I dont even own a transporter yet and have already watched videos on how to insulate, decided on what grill streamer strips (red on iridium grey van looks kinda nice!) front splitter style, and the wheels etc I want - I think my husband wishes Id just buy shoes, its would be much cheaper! (..oh, and isnt that Comfort dash just the business (sigh).....).

Thanks again, its been a brilliant help. Ill let you know what I go for .

Hi there - that was a good steer thanks- I’m looking at Autotrader now and there’s loads on there! Trying to whittle them down applying my tick list of must haves. Ps its a full sized kayak (dagger Mamba 8.1) but it will fit with one of the back seats out, my mates have a T5 and it goes in there fine.

Yeah this lot are helpful and friendly... they’ll happily bankrupt you for their own pleasure though!! It’s like an addictive peer pressure group!.

You may have already worked this out but some listings will have the features of a highline van listed individually and some will say highline (features implied) and will only list the vans optional extras. I never saw my van initially as my van was listed as highline and the seller hadn't added these features to the search/refine tick boxes.
I hope that makes sense.

cheers, ill keep an eye on that. looking at autotrader now and there is quite a bit of variation in the way the same spec is described!

Its definitely worth having a play with the configurator and spec'ing a new van. Even if just for fun. I once managed to add so many options to a Cali Ocean that it came to £90k :eek::eek:
