Double-Seat Hinge - feedback?

@saxoboy

Please do! I am really keen to do something about my bench seat but concerned it will affect the swivel which is tighter than a bull fighters underpants. I'm on the verge of giving in and getting a single.

Well, fitted the hinge today...took about an hour, but you must make sure you have the spline adapters for a socket set.....so the steps I went through were....undid the nutsholding the seat down, undid the bolts holding up the wires under the seat, then lifted the seat back about 5 inches to get access to the 6 bolts (3 either end of the seat). Slightly undid the bottom 2 bolts, but took the top bolt on each end all the way out. Then undid the 2 additional bolts holding the centre seat bracket....Then I had the rear of the seat in my hand.....took this inside the house (coz it was freezing!) and undid the seat outer, from the rear, then undid 3 bolts under the seat liner...which released the bracket.....I put the new bracket in place and redid the disassembly in reverse......looks great, seat is now at least 10 degrees further back which is a much nicer position for a passenger and the seat now folds flat too. I have attached a few pictures to show it now in its glory.....may stop me getting a single seat for a while :)2017-11-19 14.11.24.jpg 2017-11-19 14.11.32.jpg 2017-11-19 14.11.42.jpg 2017-11-19 15.08.22.jpg

This is interesting stuff as I’m also trying to decide on best option for making the front double seat a bit more comfortable, and was wondering if anyone had proceeded with either the Outdoortechnical product or the one sold on eBay? I have the non-folding double seat and I'm tempted by the less expensive option on eBay but if anyone has first hand experience of either product I'd appreciate any info. Cheers.

I'm keen to know if this affects a swivel base? The kiravans one is so tight that alterting the seat might affect the swivel. That said the swivel will be coming out if I don't work out a way to lower it!

I went for Outdoor tech, and sent mine back for p/ex, seams fine, easy to fit, but i suppose if i was fussy i would not have it reclined quiet so much, but its a lot better than the standard one.

I don't know if it affects the swivel base operation but regarding lowering the seat height I noticed this modified seat base on eBay, it says it returns the seat to its original height even with a swivel base fitted. Quite expensive though!

(VW T5 T6 LOWERED double passenger seat (brings height back to original w swivel)

View attachment 11259 Hi

Just been looking for same myself and came across this on eBay, good price as well don't know what it would be like and gives extra recline as well

Item no 182692415143
I've had this fitted - top bloke - it reclines the seat back about 10 degrees, which makes a big difference (about the thickness of the seat) and also makes it so it folds foward and can be used as a table (or to get longer items in)

Speak to Gordon - the bloke selling them on ebay- he fitted mine. He may still be fitting them free if you are willing to go to him.

Message him on eBay and he will come back to you.

Hi Adrian

ill contact him Gordon straight after the xmas hols. thanks for the reply :thumbsup:

merry xmas and new year

Just ordered one of these too. I really like the double seat and storage you get with it but the wife says it’s uncomfortable on long journeys and wanted a single seat conversion. Hopefully this will be the best of both..... and the folding option was really useful in my old T5, so it will be a bonus to get that feature back again.
