DPF Regen Frequency / Issues / Force discussion.

Yeah looked at that also Dellmasive thanks
But why Regen so long and not that complaining but why would dpf light come on whilst in Regen and for such a short amount time for it go off?

You would need to plug in a scanner or code reader to see what codes are stored...

It's normally emissions related and not a massive problem....

Possibly EGR performance related... it may need an EGR flush/clean

Thanks Dellmassive, yeah just seen that.
Realise that your thread covers everything apart from Women’s hormones :)
I’m new to all these scanners and will have to get my head round it about learning how to use them.
One last question, when taking van in for service or inspection would they plug one of these in to look for any faults and would roadside assistance have access to scanners or VCDS?

Yes . . .

well VCDS is effectively a cloan of the older OEM VW diagnostic software/hardware (its 100% legal with a licences version but will cost £400)

The AA and VW assist use a Bespoke or OEM mobile version of diagnostics including Bosch and other brands. . .

and the OEM Dealers themselves have now moved onto a more modern version called ODIS Online ( connects the van to the factory/VW main system)

Carista on the other hand is designed for the DIYer and costs £20 . . . . . so can scan for fault codes etc (free) . . . . . . but also has the advantage of some paid-for-options like programming (as highlighted in my thread on Carista)

Just to make you aware by having a remap it will produce more soot, so it will do regens more often and longer to burn it off in the process

Hi Guys,

Hope your all keeping well, staying safe and at home given the current circumstances...

I need some help!
So called up vw assist because i have the engine management light on (Amber) and the coil light on (Amber) gentleman cam out and advised me it was cause of the DPF and that it was not covered under warranty (plugged in is thingy mijig).

Got called from VW today telling me that i need to have a New DPF fitted as its not covered under warranty. I told her i had no DPF light come on to warn me but she was having none of it, asked them for a fault code and she said i would need to PAY £60 (wtf).
any way gave her a piece of my mind and hung up. got a call back from the manger who was happy to cooperate and gave me a code which was "P246300" WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

I have a 67 plate T32 LWB Kombi which has 19k

can somebody help?
will i need to pay for a new DPF

thanks in Adv

Kay.

If you Google that code, it tells you that there is a soot blockage in your DPF.

No-one here can tell you for sure if you need a new DPF, but VW should be able to explain to you why they think you need one. Sometimes they can force a regen, which clears it out - a much cheaper alternative.

Some questions:

Does the vehicle seem to run ok ?
What sort of journeys do you do in the van - long motorway runs or lots of short journeys?

Pete

28000 miles and 15 months old with a 204 that gets booted everywhere

Light came on last week for the first time but I have to say I noticed a difference in drive with a couple of tanks o fuel I had used from a Tesco Esso garage, filled up with Costco premium and WOW what a difference, must be shit in the tanks at my local garage.

THE DPF won't regenerate if you have less than 1/4 of a tank of fuel no matter how you drive. So always run with more than a quarter.

Get the dealer to force a regeneration, fill with fuel and go and give it a really good run with revs over 2000. Or go to an independent to do it - We can do it for you.

I've found mine will still regen with well below 1/4 tank since it had the software update . Whether it should or not is another question........

There is an upper soot limit at which the dealer will not force a regeneration.

The question is, how long were you driving it with both the warning lights on?

Best way to clear it is to take the DPF/Cat pipe out of the system and back flush it with high pressure water until the water runs clear, that's the only way to clear out the ash build up in the DPF honeycomb, DPF cleaner additives, Carbon clean treatments and any other supposed method of cleaning the DPF without removing it from the vehicle will not work (or will not work for long)
Backflushing is the only way to go, and is the way the big trucks get their DPF's cleaned out at regular intervals.

Hey Pete,

Thanks for the reply....

It seems to be running fine not as punchy as it once was but i assume that its running at a reduced power cause of the warning lights but you cant really tell driving it around the town.
i do a mixture of both get enough long journeys in too but i had no DPF light come on

Soo Confused!

To be honest the light came on a few weeks ago but i have not drove since got in the van yesterday and lights were still on so i called assist...

guy was nice but said straight away not covered under warranty and then when i spoke with VW today they told me that what the recover advised them to..

Thanks will defiantly be lookng into this, can it still be done now that its is supposedly blocked?

I do a lot of round town/short trips, this is in my T5.1 not the T6, every few months I get the light on so give it a blast and off it goes.
But I have had the management light on at the same time and it goes into limp mode, so can't then blast it up the bypass to clear it, this is only if I haven't managed to give it a blast soon enough.
All I do is plug it in clear the fault code then blast it for a while and all good.
VW just want you to go to them and spend some money.
