Engine Management Light (EML) on - emissions control.

First day on holiday over in France and up pops the Engine Management light. I’ve also got an Ad Blue range reading of 4000 miles with an min and max top up of 0.75 gal.

We have another 400 miles to go to reach our destination tomorrow.

Question 1 - is it ok to drive as is or should I call VW assist before continuing tomorrow?

Question 2 - should I reset with Carista ?

Question 3 - should I add Ad Blue and see if it clears the fault ?

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Drive on an dont panic, if it's just a yellow light without any reds its normally just emissions related and will not cause a drive ability concern..

Possibly EGR efficiency.

Dont worry about adblue yet.... you got loads of miles left.

Have a look here for a bit of background... 》

What happened ???
We have done 2500 miles since on holiday with no problems at all. I think the light was triggered by the ad blue countdown message. I’m back home today so will plug in Caritsa again and see what codes are now registered.

After having the mil light on for a week the coil light started flashing on our way to our campsite this evening and we are in limp mode and vcds is at home.
Carista wont clear it I think the ash level has got too high...

Will have to limp home Sunday and get it sorted...

Exactly what I had on my A6 biturbo - Turbo actuator both turbos out - had them done twice 6 turbos in a year.

Not saying this is the issue I hope not but it is VAG !

I also had coil light flash and limp mode doing nc500 but had carista with me and am sure the fault was cylinder 1 air inlet jammed open , reset code and been fine ever since . Did a wee scan online and it could be carbon build up on the valve that's caused it which would make sense as I drive like a granny on a Sunday , after a reset the code I switched to manual and opened her up for while and seems to be fine

Horray, VW Assist came out this morning and replaced the DPF DPS(Differential Pressure Sensor) which also included a compulsory replacement of the 2 HP boost hoses either end of the charge cooler (these are one shot apparently) and then did a forced regeneration and all is now good.

No more lights.

Hi

I have been trawling through this site and I keep seeing references to the MIL light going on and generally regarding DPF, adblue or similar.

Are the T6 engines and issue, I will be picking up my EU6 150 next week so I would like to know if I am going to get any regular issues.

Thanks

It's not VW specific.

All modern Derv engines are effected in the same way in respect of the constant battle against Euro emissions standards.

It mostly depends on your driving style. Ie more short hops may give you more issues... more longer trips less issues.

Nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks, I do quite a few short trips each week but also usually a couple a 70-80 A road round trips as well. So hopefully all will be OK

Called out VW Assistance after getting the orange engine icon come up on Sunday and now have had to be booked into the local robbing dealers so that they can thrash the guts out of my poor van to supposedly burn out the ash in the DPF.

As you can tell I'm thrilled about this and wondering if this is going to be a recurring problem bearing in mind the van is a camper now and approaching 40,000 miles on a 67 plate.

Wondering if it's possible or realistic to get the DPF flushed out as there are videos on Youtube showing just this on various other vehicle exhausts?

Mine was done at the roadside by the VW assist tech, did you get an AA man?

It was the same VW Assistance local chap who swapped the Moll battery over, sadly this time as it's the DPF that's full of shite he's booked the van into the nearby dealers here in Northampton.

The VW Assist guy told the wife that the clogged DPF should come under the warranty so maybe I shouldn't be so grumpy in anticipation of getting robbed however as the van goes in Friday that mucks up dropping into Lyndon Top on Saturday.

For what it's worth, my engine warning light came on last week but it's since gone out on its own accord.

My wife was driving when the light came on but it disappeared when I drove it. I'm wondering if driving style can be the cause? She tends to drive petrol and diesel cars the same, whereas I tend to take more account of the power delivery between the two and drive them a bit more sympathetically.

We had a Seat Leon 2.0 tdi FR 184 which the wife used to commute daily across town and that poor thing would regen at some point each week with that horrible scorched engine smell etc. however the engineer today told the wife it doesn't matter if you drive like a vicar or a joyrider with the van as the DPF will clog up regardless, it's designed to collect soot for a living.

I had mine come on in Spain.
Local dealer easily dealt with it with a software update and a forced regen x2 - it took all day though.

Was warned against using cheap fuel, apparently in the UK, Shell do the best quality for the price.

You’ll be fine

can anyone tell me what this light means? Is it emissions or engine management? Is there anything I can do? Only bought my t6 the other week! EBC1F508-56E2-49F9-841F-4605FC179699.jpeg
