Fickle MPG

I am beginning to think that the aux heater might be coming on randomly and using it up...

Loz are you driving around like a crazed loon or has someone sneaked a pallet of cement bags into your boot?
Reckon it'll get even worse when it is lifted and whopping knobbly tyres popped on as well.

My Mrs Golf on the way home - this is a 2.0 tdi 140 engine which they recalled, shit reliability but sips fuel - was hoping the van would get close to 40mpg

Bloody hell Jay........I run mine on diesel. I've heard there's a petrol variant coming too.......but I didn't know there was a wood burning option? I expect yours has a flue as opposed to an exhaust?

I find it runs a little cleaner on wood pellets..... ;-)

Due a trip tip specsavers. Cant see what im typing on this bloody phone...

I have about 250-300kg of load including racking and equipment.

Half of that is removable and it never made a difference to the mpg.

Even loaded up plus 4 wheels and tyres weighting and extra 120kg. No difference.

Isn't is said -50kg is equal to around 1% fuel reduction.

Driving home from work in my Octavia VRS, 2.0tdi 188bhp, yesterday evening got 62.5mpg on the "since start" computer. Reads 52mpg since refuel and 50mpg as long term. And on occasion that thing gets driven like it's been stolen beyond all belief.

Subaru; 28mpg, BM 30ish too.
Pretty poor mpg all round but big smiles.

Not sure I've ever had over 40 in any car I've owned.

My 150 manual, no chance of this happening from my optimistic Mfd. Normally get 650 from my 80L tank

Mine is a euro 6, 102 BHP. Was really not happy with my mpg, not getting above 36mpg!

Wife was using it and getting 45!!!, very bad day, had to drive it like her. She will get up to speed and then turn on the cruise control. I was using the resume button to take it back up to speed. Drove it Sunday (90miles return trip), like my wife would and got 47.3 as you can see.

Very bad day at our house, A - admitting the wife knew better & B - she drives the van better than me!

Give it a try?

Wizardry!!!

Getting 450 miles per tank, that's with heavier wheels, always being fully loaded and having a fridge motor running constantly..... So after reading some of the posts here, not to bad :)

140 DSG Kombi, 25K mainly motorway driving at 70 ish. Overall average on the MFD 39.8 and my last calc was almost identical. It appears to be creeping up bit by bit, but I firmly believe these engines aren't run in until 50K. I rarely fill up before 630-650 miles, I once got 720!
