First French trip, best location weather wise in September?

Well train all booked up now. Just a few things left to sort out like, the dog health certificate, EU breakdown cover, van insurance, travel insurance, toll road tag..........

Dog health certificate - going through the same, our mutt had the rabies vaccine a couple of weeks ago as stage 1. The not being able to use a pet passport is an expensive inconvenience. Brexit dividend.

For EU breakdown cover and travel insurance, we have a Flex Plus account with Nationwide. It includes both, plus mobile phone insurance. £13 a month, decent value and decent cover.

For toll road tag we’ve had one from Emovis for years, works brilliantly. No hassle whatsoever. In fact it lasted precisely 6 years and we’ve just had to get a new one as the battery expired.

Sorry another question? For those with the original paper driving licence (or is it just me) do you still require an IDP?

Going back to Lyon and I haven't been through there since the early noughties but we've always hurtled through a long tunnel and then popped out in the middle of a huge Elf oil refinery.
Easy to carry on hammering south to avoid the fumes but Lyon always feels like the point where you hit proper "holidaying abroad" temperatures.
We've invariably spent time between Frejus and Nice as bases but ventured into the Alpes Maritimes on day trips where despite being mini Alps the scenery gets epic very quickly eg. the Gorge du Verdon.
Only been there once in September and as pointed out earlier the holiday season literally turns on a sixpence with pleasantly full coastal resorts closing over a weekend... I miss France and will have to break this duck next year!

Well only 3 more sleeps until our first French adventure starts. Can't wait. Probably going to head towards lake annecy for a few days and then head further south.

Any final hints or tips for a EU novice? Thanks.

Apart from the channel crossings don’t concern yourself with the time or where you should be.

We spent 5 days at Lake Annecy at the end of July and absolutely loved it. Incredible scenery, brilliant cycling and perfect for a swim on a hot day.

We are around Avignon now and have been for a couple of weeks. Bring a waterproof as the season is on the turn.
25-30 next week and thundery showers. The french will be in jumpers....

A lot of the French alpine resorts shut at the end of August, but some remain open until mid Sept, such as Les Gets and Morzine. Both are worth a couple of days if you're into hiking or biking.
