First post, first camping trip, first user error(?)

Been checking it evening and morning. Consistently dropping 0.1v overnight.

12.36 to 12.25
12.28 to 12.18
12.25 to 12.11 over last night.

Checked with engine on today and it was over 14v, so alternator is working.

Dealer is replacing it for free on Friday
My starter battery drops well as soon as the engine is turned off. 12.5 + on switch off, voltage plot courtesy of Cerbo from midnight last night until now.
Ablemail will kick in when SB voltage goes below 12.3v as long as LB is over 13v. Default setting 4.
I have a 12 month old Bosch 95Ah starter battery. Engine switched off at 5pm yesterday. 0.1v seems like a normal SB drop to me.
Get an Ablemail AMT 12-2 is my advice!
Plot shows midnight last night to 8pm tonight. Van not driven today.

I am going to Solar Shack (In Ashington) on the 25th to sort that out. Will see what options he has for starter battery maintainer, but if he doesn't stock Ablemail or similar I can add that after if I am still seeing a decent drop off with new battery.

I really appreciate all the advice on this thread!
I knew it was a good idea to use a rear-end photo as that is what gets engagement on the internet these days... Even with vans

Can't beat rear end engagement, they say!

Although it got Schofield in a lot of trouble!
Talking of Schofield, did you say your LB was an AGM 70Ah? That is indeed 'bugger' all, you'll only see half or less of that to use for your LB needs. Ask Solar Shack about an upgrade to Lithium. A 100Ah Lithium will give 3 times the available capacity over a 70Ah AGM LB. We may be confused here because the standard EFB starter battery was 70Ah. Lithium rules tho, certainly pay to ask the Lithium question. Only trying to help drain your available funds....welcome to the forum!

Yes 70Ah AGM leisure. I came to same conclusion and already asked Solar Shack for the 100Ah LiFePo4 battery. As you say, not just the Ah rating that matters but depth of discharge. Got several trips booked already and Dubbed Out Festival so getting the set up how we want it is worth it to us

True what they say that these campers are money pits... Always something else to add or upgrade.

Throw in a bigger starter battery with the AMT, solar panel 150 watt or more, and you'll have a nice system with no anxiety! You can enjoy it more then! After that you can worry about better suspension running on those 20's which look betterer! Or not of course!

How are you measuring these and when? As mentioned the battery drops rapidly in the first hour after shutting the vehicle down. It will also drop when you unlock the van as all the systems fire up. Having something like a BM2 Bluetooth voltage monitor is great because you can see a plot of the voltage and check it without having to unlock the van and open the bonnet.

Measurements were around 7pm (after returning from work at 5pm so had sat on drive for 2 hours). Then in the morning before starting. Unlocked and door open though.

Even if it is normal to lose charge when unlocking, it shouldn't be 0.1v worth surely. At this rate (0.1v in 12hrs Sat on drive) it would be flat from full after a long weekend in an airport car park, which isn't normal.

Sat at the dealer now while they change it.

The lad who put these wheels originally on is the one they are making take the stuck one off... He looked a little sheepish.

When you unlock the van there's a load of systems which power up, drawing from the SB - and any draw from the SB will cause a voltage drop. So you might be seeing a lower voltage than it's actually sat at when idle.

For the BM2, am I looking at the 22 quid one from Amazon or is there a certain brand you would recommend?

Just make sure it’s one that can datalog.
On eBay there are some cheapies that appear identical but will only show data for the time while you’re connected to Bluetooth.

Can't believe this thread only has one van photo...
Easily fixed... Photo below now with 20s off and 17s with Cross Climates on now to sell the 20s. Will sign up for VIP forum then post in proper place... Better than FB market place I presume.

Battery replaced free of charge, very apologetic dealership. Not only did they loosen the stuck wheel nuts for me but they changed all the wheels while they were at it. I took the 17s down on the off chance they would just do them for me.

Dealer was E S Harley in Ings, Cumbria.
Quick to fix their mistakes, very friendly and apologetic.
They were great when we bought it too, very patient as we were there for four hours while our 1 year old was trying out every van seat several times while me and the wife took turns actually looking at them. They will be at the NEC next week.

Letting it rest for a couple of hours is good, but unlocking and opening the door starts up lots of modules and puts a load on the battery, thereby dropping the voltage. The voltage will recover when everything shuts back down again and the battery settles, minus a tiny amount that was used to run everything. Something like a BM2 will allow you to remotely measure the voltage without firing anything up on the van. I have this one and it’s been great:

Very sensible and smart too. :)

Thats interesting re the battery maintainer. Wanted that facility when i had our solar panels installed. Anyone know of an installer in Essex?
