First service - Main dealer or Indie?

Thanks for the info, but can anyone answer my questions?
I think @archersam has actually answered your question. The vans leave the factory either set to “flexible” or “fixed” service intervals. Flexible is determined by operating conditions & driving style, the van will decide when it needs a service & this can vary between 6 & 20k , you will get a message on the dash when the van decides it needs a service. Fixed servicing is 12 months or 10k miles. Most folk with private precious vans ( me included) tend to disregard the service notifications & service more frequently. I do an oil change at 6k miles.
Plenty of discussion on the forum if you use the search function ;)

Great, thanks for the explanation

It turns out my van was not 'set' by Heritage before I got it, so my little van doesn't know if it is flexible or fixed. VeeW Service are going to sort that out for me. Thanks.

If you are going to keep the van forever then go independent, if you are looking to change soon and want top dollar for it, I would go main dealer, that way you will have a full VAG service history.
In my humble opinion

If you're in warranty and need to use it it's much easier if it's done with main dealer and easier if you have a track record with them.

You can still use an indie for things like additional oil changes and sorting out brake pads at more reasonable prices if that works for you.

That's my intention - use VW as/when the extended service regime dictates, but supplement with annual oil/filter changes at a local indie.
