Yes got a few of them myself out in the garage.People used to make their own split cane rods when I was young, that was an art. ( and dangerous, the cane has razor sharp edges when split so you have to wear very thick leather gloves for this part ) I think that it was Tonkin cane that was used. No just buying fibre blanks in those days. You can't beat a good split cane rod. I've still got a 10ft cane pier rod with agate rings in my shed.
Maybe he’s getting a bite that’s why he’s got a big smile on his faceAt least he is the right way up for his worm to be in the water!
It’s rivers that I fish.Having a campervan gives you so much more access to decent fishing spots. I'm more of a river angler rather than commercials myself.
I love going where you can camp and night fish right by your peg.
A few come to mind,
A1 Pits on the Trent
Anchor Meadow on the Avon
Unicorn Inn on the Servern.
Anyone know of any other good ones?
Oh nice! Always fancied the Spey looks spectacular, I love fly fishing.... I'm rubbish at it like! It’s rivers that I fish.
It’s the salmon I go for and I book 3 days to a week at a time.
First trip is end of March to the Spey a beat called Tulchan for 2 days.
Back to the Spey in April for 3 days on Pitcroy
May is 3 days on the Conon
June is a week on Upper Arndilly on the Spey again.
July is a week on the Helmsdale.
I have accommodation booked for most of the trips but will take the camper and sleep in that with my dogs.
I love taking my camper onto the beats and right to the river.
I also fish lots of other rivers on day tickets and my club waters.
I’ve never fished the borders.Oh nice! Always fancied the Spey looks spectacular, I love fly fishing.... I'm rubbish at it like!
Any tips for rivers more toward the boarders on a decent price day ticket? I fished the Annan once and really enjoyed that.
Imagine spending £600 on a day ticket and blanking ...I’ve never fished the borders.
But would love to wet a line on the Annan and tweed one day.
Tweed is the only big 4 river I’ve not fished.
I mainly fish the north and south esks as well as the Tay and Spey as well as a few of the really northern rivers when I take trips in the camper.
I can suggest good day tickets up this way but salmon fishing can be very expensive.
A cheap day is £50
The most I spend is a couple times a year treat on the Spey at £150 a day but you can be £10k for a weeks fishing on the Spey and up to £30k for a week on the Helmsdale and some other northern rivers.
Even the Tay at Scone palace on the Almond mouth beat you are £600 a day to fish it.
£500 a day at the Isla mouth on the Tay.
Needless to say I’ve never fished any of them.

Some ace pics, thanks for sharing
I totally agree. Year books all the way, i pay about £65 for the Leeds ticket and only £20 a year with Bingley anglers book. Access to some of the most beautiful rivers in Yorkshire, such good value.Exactly
I just wouldn’t enjoy a days fishing after spending that.
I would be gutted blanking.
I justify spending £150 a day because I treat it as a holiday once or twice a year. But that is the maximum I would spend on a days fishing.
It wasn’t a cheap day taking my laddie out.
Clubs are a much cheaper better way to get on good rivers. I’m £100-£150 a season for each club. And that’s to fish all season
I also got my laddie club tickets. One was £10 the £15 for the season. To encourage kids to take it up.I totally agree.
