It depends upon where you have mounted the heater - earlier you spoke of using a turret mount in which case there is no wiring to bring into the van as it is all internal.
If mounting OEM position externally as above but the hole is usually plugged with a plastic bung which is useless for a loom - you need a proper wiring grommet. I use this one: Original 1.75" (45mm) Lucas Black Rubber Wiring Grommet : Part No. 54935995 | eBay this is the correct size.

Personally I'd never cut out any metal near the seatbelt mounts. I had one of my VWs fail an MOT because of some bad corrosion in an area close to the seatbelt mount. This is why when I removed the bulkhead mounts I didn't grind down the welds too much for fear of thinning the metal.

That’s a significant cross section of a very important structural support removed. Aside from it being an MOT failure if ever spotted it’s going to compromise the safety of occupants.

It is the same as the OEM cut-out except for a slight lip to the hole. Corrosion is different to a cut out hole for the MoT. Girders and the like are constructed with lightening holes that do not affect the overall integrity. If you go into the bowels of a ship and crawl about in the bilges you will find that the non-watertight bulkheads have holes in the same way.
Why is OEM hole acceptable and not an MoT failure and not diy?

That’s what I did for a living, they have collars fitted to stiffen the plate.

Not all! When I studied ship construction collars were not used. I was in the bowels of ships every day when I was a working man.
Still not an MoT failure.

hello does anyone have the dimensions to cut the upright and the pillar
No dimensions mentioned in the guide but this thread may contain more details, hence the merge.

See:
In order to figure out where the vent piece goes I used some putty to stick it to the metal work, then installed the b-piller trim over the top, and fished through the holes in order to line it up. Removed the trim, drew round the base of the duct.

I have two 1" ducts siamesed in to the air vent 7H0 819 655 A (Y shaped bit behind the pillar plastics.)
One goes straight up and comes out in the pop top roof space at the front above the drivers door, the other goes down inside the pop top bed rails and comes out at the back in the bed area right by my feet. (see post #206)

Hi, first post on the forum, be gentle lol.

It was this thread that got me into the T6 Forum. I have recently bought an early T6 Kombi Highline that I intend to modify over time into a multi purpose vehicle, one of those purposes being a day van, capable of being used as a short stay camper (2-3 nights max), mainly when I am travelling for work or where it is not worth dragging the caravan. I'm planning to keep the van for quite some time.

The first modification I am going to do is fit a diesel air heater and especially like the OEM duct work.

From the first page of the thread I thought this is fantastic and not as hard as I had thought, however reading on, page 36 and counting, I can see it is not so straightforward. Many combinations of part numbers etc.

I would like to become self sufficient with part numbers etc. and not to ask folks questions that they have been asked many times before.

My main aim is two fold:
OEM style heater installation (independent control though)
Commence replacement of light gray plastics with anthracite/black plastics (will start with B pillars and then work forward over time)

I have a TPS account and they are usually quite helpful, albeit they need some persuasion if I can't give them a reg/chassis number. I think I will be ok if I give them VW part numbers though and hence my anxiety with this as I don't want to mess them around for a one off.

My research leads me to believe that the T6 is fitted with Eberspacher heaters from the factory but I am open to other heater makes.

I have not considered where to mount the leisure battery yet, however I do like the idea of something like an Ecoflow DELTA 2 which combines solar charging, vehicle charging, built in inverter, 12v output etc.

I'd appreciate a steer on the anthracite plastic part numbers for the B pillars.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Chris

If anyone needs a grille for the step - I have one left (PM me). This grille can be installed in any of the caravelle/transporter steps and is very close to the original.
There is already a template on the OEM step embossed on the back - just cut using that template and it will fit right in.

Heres the updated list i have for T6.1, i havent ordered all of these parts yet, im confident they are correct but please double check what your ordering !

Hi Pauly. Please can you help as you clearly know your stuff? Is 7E0 819 381C a different size to 7E0 819 381D?

I’m not sure but it has a different part number so I assume it is different somehow ?
Sometimes when the last letter is different it’s a revision but as The B pillars they fit are different it’s hard to be sure

The B-pillar body is the same on all T5, T6, T6.1.
Therefore, the main duct moving the hot air is always the same regardless of the part number.
7E0819381D, 7E0819381A, 7E0819381B, 7E0819381C are all equivalent.

The only parts that are differing between Transporter and Caravelle/Multivan are the Y-splitter and the angle-grille, regardless of T5/6/6.1
