Fogstar Batteries

No, not a mains charger. A DC-DC charger is a battery to battery charger. Look at Victron Orion or CTEK
Ah ok thanks.
Does it matter if the car battery is lead acid?

Can you use the same DC to DC charger to charge from the mains when on the mains?

Thanks,

Ollie

No. Unless you have a separate 240v charger that is plugged in and charging the vehicle battery, which will then force a charge through to your DC-DC charger thus charging your leisure battery.

For info : as at today Fogstar 105A lithiums are currently in stock (even though website suggests still on preorder). Bought today. Being delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to the upgrade.

Are you happy with it? My AGM has finally let me down, so the Fogstar 105 is my front runner at the moment. I have Renogy DCC50S

Also important is the lowest current that the BMS can detect.... Ie led lights and USB chargers, dash cams etc..... I'd it's not low enough you will get a lot of BMS drift.
Can you expand on this?

My AGM has finally let me down, so the Fogstar 105 is my front runner at the moment.

I have Renogy DCC50S. I do need sometimes to pull fractions of an amp for a LED nightlight. Is this a problem?

no, no problem.

to reset the BMS just fully charge the battery,

some BMS will shut down the battery into SLEEP mode if the dont detect and draw or charge . . . normally over a 24hr period. ( Poweroad)

the Renogy battery holds power at the terminals 24/7.

I've not tested a Fogstar yet. - ill look into that.

.............

more info here:

Fogstar tell me that the battery will go into sleep mode if it has no charge/discharge/bluetooth activity. And to wake it, just apply a load they say.

I'm not sure how this can work, if the battery output is turned off, how will it know a load is present?

Anyhow, I leave my fridge on most of the year, so that'll keep the BMS occupied, so I've ordered one.

The BMS will have a small amount of power at the terminals. (Possibly 5v) that is used to detect a load.

Incoming charge will wake it.

Standard stuff on lifepo4 batteries that have a sleep mode.

Renogy and Roamer for example don't sleep.

But poweroand and fogstar seem to have it.

Interesting, when the battery arrives, I'll get my fluke out and check this.

Next job for me is to suss out the BLE data if I can, so that I can get battery info up on my OLED display without using the app.

So far for me - absolutely spot on. Very little charge fall off (appreciate my previous AGM must have been shot) but for the price and that I’ll get twice the usable Ah out of it - can fault it for the price so far. About to go on a trip, so will get its first real world test. Not much of a premium over the AGM I was going to get - and 10yr warranty. Next day delivery. Seems like a no brainer.

Keep me posted - am interested. Sorry to have missed your post on Monday asking for a review. Replied on that thread. But all good - though anything has to be an improvement on what I was limping along with previously!

Just been away for 2 weeks with my 105ah, worked as expected, we were at a few sites with ehu but didn't bother to use them as didn't need them.

Bring hyper critical I have to close the app and restart it to connect by Bluetooth, but that may just be my phone. Having the app is super useful to see what's going on with the battery

It fits. I thought about moving the ehu charger to the driver side, but there was no need.

Not sure I still need the BP unit, it seems like a good way to isolate the battery/load. Anyone give me good reasons to retain/remove it?

Looking to change up to 105ah Lithium.
Currently have a 2015 VanWorx conversion.
Sargent PX300 3 stage intelligent charger(14.4v peak)
Koshun 300 inverter
VSR relay

Would the upgraded DC-DC charger replace Sargent unit and VSR relay?

Your Sargent charger is 'suitable for lead-acid' batteries, so not ideal for Lithium, same for the VSR.

I took that plunge for the Powerroad 100ah and didn’t look back. The self heat is a game changer TBH i’ve seen it kick in a frew times down as low as -15c in Austria. £369 bite their hands off I paid £600+ but as an early user accept there is a risk.

We just had our first week away with the new 105Ah fogstar. It's been fine except for one night it seems to have switched itself off for half an hour. At the time there was very little constant current drawn, and the fridge was on, which means drawing about 3 to 4 amps while the compressor runs for 5 mins, then no draw for 10 minutes or so.

No harm done this time, but I'd like to fix this issue. Before I raise a ticket with fogstar, has anyone any suggestions?

Just bought Fogstar Drift 105.. came next day delivery. Will be a few weeks before I get my electrics installed to try it out! Looking to fit under drivers seat.

I've not had any issues like you describe and run a fridge while away. I have a tracker and battery monitor which draws a little current, not sure if that makes any difference
