Fridges & Cold Beer -- How I Done It --

Unfortunately the manufacturer seems to have not included this as the highest temperature you can set the 'freezer' to, regardless of whether the divider is in place or not, is -12 c. Which, as you say, isn't going to work well, when you actually want the whole compartment to be at 2 degrees.

Hence, it's just easier to keep the divider in place and stick some ice pops, or ice cream in there!
Well that's a terrible bit of design, how do they see that working at all? I wonder if the similar Dometic/Waeco works the same as that looked like a smart design.

It's a single compressor fridge with an insulated box around the condenser evaporator to use like a traditional "ice box" fridge?

How many temperature controls does it have 1 or 2?
Has two separate controls, dual Temperature
Fridge 0c to 8 c
Freezer -12 to -20 c
But no option to switch freezer off, only reduce to -12c

My Alpicool pulled an interesting one today. It refused to start as the measured temperature was varying in between -8 and -19°C. I was trying to use it in fridge mode set to 4°C. The actual temperature at the time of trying to start it was about 20 or little bit over and it might have got some direct sunlight. Alpicools own voltage meter showed 12.5V.

I tried to keep the power disconnected for a while and played with the buttons to no avail. So we had to go without fridge working. But then after the drive I noticed it had started somewhere along the trip and seemed to work fine.

Maybe
  • a bad contact at the temperature sensor
  • overheated brains if the control panel got some direct sun
  • power issue though voltage seemed ok
Anyway, little bit strange event and probably calls for light investigation - a failing fridge is not a nice surprise in summer trips.

HELP PLEASE! We’re away in Scandinavia with our Bodega 50l compressor fridge which has worked flawlessly up till now. We’ve stayed with family for a couple of days in Norway and now the fridge will not power on with either mains or 12v power. It beeps and the display flickers on but then nothing. We’ve still got 8 days away so I could do with some pointers if anyone has experienced similar with their Bodega/Alpicool/Outsunny fridges please!

Sorry can't help with the above ^^

Seems JK have dropped the price of the TotalFreeze 45 to £199 - seems to be a tried and tested fridge / freezer. Though I really like the looks of the Halfords Fridge but not sure what the real world performance would be?

Just wondered if anyone had the Halfords unit?

Absolutely spot on this fridge. It comes with both a 12v and a 240v plug. Great find @russ_e and thanks.

The interior is spacious, comfortably fitting several 2L water bottles standing upright. The internal lighting is excellent. Even on a day when temperatures reached 33°C, the fridge maintained a consistent 4/5°C (it was under the tarp awning).

It’s easy to transport thanks to the wheels and extendable handle, though I wish the handle was removable.

The bottle opener was a lifesaver after I forgot to bring one.

Hi all,

After reading through everything I finally took the plunge and went for one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CLDJ3N47?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

for £229.99

Aaobosi 60L - looks very much like an Alpicool T60, in fact this was on the box when it arrived
20240811_142439.jpg
20240811_143115.jpg

It's got a divider in it, and has run perfectly for the last 2 weeks with 3 degrees on both sides. I tried the right at -18 and the left at 3 and all worked OK. Seems to be exactly the same as a bodega version of the same thing (comes up as a bodega when you connect to bluetooth). Very pleased with it as I couldn't get my hands on the outsunny!

Paired with a Bluetti AC50B (448wh) when sat in the van on a hot day it will comfortably last all day, when the temperature is a bit more sensible and it's well loaded I ran it from 9am to 10pm and battery still had 65% left. This was without connecting the power pack to the van to charge up - it did charge up quite quickly when connected to the van which would then add longetivity as required.

Such an improvement on the old thermoelectric cooler I had previously - ice cold drinks on demand!

Very pleased and I would recommend.

Thank you to @Dellmassive and all other contributors for the detailed write up in helping me pick a fridge and power pack, very happy with my choices and wishing I'd done it sooner.

Any questions please message.

Thank you!

James

our latest fridge has just had an upgrade. . .

12v + 240v
dual zone,
-20 to +10
BT App,
additional battery available
Solar input - when used with battery.

....

we got them from Mel at the DC Leisure stand. . . we see them at Busfest as well. (awesome shop and people BTW)

so whats the upgrade?

well myself and @garyp1969 are currently on the lookout for the battery that fits these units - that's a reasonable price.

in the meantime i managed to buy @Swamper_Jez spare battery - well he had two originally, and agreed to sell me one of them - Thanks Jez :mexican wave:

.

the battery fits inplace of the blank cover next to the power in,

1726297280301.png1726297292654.png

when the battery is powered on, you have a status light and 4x battery level LEDS,

1726297324481.png

the idea is to cool the fridge down on mains. . . then flip over to the battery.

Jaz has reported that the fridge will run for a good 12hours from the battery. . (normal specs, pre-chilled fridge, 4degC normal use case etc etc)

plus, now we have the battery. . . . we can connect a solar panel for the jack at the bottom,

that will help run the fridge and charge the battery. . . . Nice.

oh and when the fridge is on wired power, ie 240v it charges the battery as well, (not tested 12v yet, but assumed the same)

you can also turn the battery ON/OFF completely so the fridge ignores it.

battery INFO:

11.1v with 15.6Ah
18650 batts in 3s6p configuration.
10.8 - 11.7v usable range.

chargeing voltage - 12.6v
charge current max - 7.8A

just realised i didnt add the new fridge to this thread. . . . oops.

so here is the APP, when running at Busfest this year. . . the LOCK is the best feature as the touch sensitive screen is just SOOOOOO sensitive.

ill be happy when we move away from touch screens and get good old clicky buttons back again !! - well heres hoping anyway.

1726297975391.png1726298237743.png

and while im here this is the APP from the Dometic CFX3,

at this point i had it running off the EF Delta2 on 240v - the best way to run them in my option - VS 12v.

1726298330588.png1726298537805.png

and the EF Delt2 was being trickle charge by a buffer battery - the awseome ROAMER SB230.

1726298374050.png

and the Roamer was being trickle charged from SOLAR - via a 200w fold out panel stuck to the roof with sucktion cups, and connected to a victron mppt.

it all looks a mess, but this is a tempory plug-n-pluy tempory setup.

THQ Alpicool TWW35 12v/24v + Mains Charging, 35L Portable Battery Powered Fridge Freezer – with LG Compressor

First of all we love this fridge. It’s the go anyway, do anything fridge. We’ve been using one of these ourselves for over a year now. It fits perfect in the back of an Ovano bed system, or under a Forty Winks Kombi bed. The 230v and 12v charging options, plus additional solar if required, its a great model, ‘out and about’ fridge. Plus if you need a back up fridge at home or have 230v plugs in your camper, you can charge it direct off that.

The Alpicool TWW35 Portable Battery Powered Fridge Freezer uses a high quality + high performance LG Compressor meaning it runs quieter and more efficiently than many other fridges on the market.

It features a clever door/ lid hinge system, meaning it can open outwards both left and right which is also removable making it a lot easier for cleaning. This lid can be used as a seat, or as a work surface with a location for the chopping board provided, neatly stored on the underside of the fridge lid.

With the Alpicool having the Dual Climate option, you can store a range of different food and drink products at a temperature which suits the whole party. The Mobile APP connectivity is great way to monitor the fridges battery capacity along with making sure the Temperature is set to where you like it. Yep thats right, you can monitor and control the temperature and power usage separately via bluetooth on app on your smart phone (app – “Car Fridge Freezer”).

The Durable wheels and telescopic handle make it a lot more practical for transportation which can be used on multiple terrains.
