That's their new attempt at a cheat device.I've just worked out why VW have fitted such feeble headlights. I was driving home tonight......filthy horrible nigh...... and there were times when I had to drive like Reginald Molehusband due to the lack of visibility provided by the two miners lamps up front. This had a knock on effect to my fuel economy which improved noticeably........so that's why they did it.........they improve your fuel consumption.......eureka!!!!
The lights supplied look 100% better and the short length visibility is greatly improved. After a few weeks of using them now I don't think they have made a lot of difference to the reach of the beam. (if that makes sense)I have sets of xenon white lamps for the front end but i took them down from the shop as the supplier could only get me 3 pairs of DRLs to match so i only have one complete kit but plenty of head/fog/side light bulbs
Looking like i will have to go LED DRLs with the rest xenon white in the kit but its a minefield with LED lamps as there is so much cheap crap around, im only prepared to list things that i know are good and i have tried and tested.
@surf-report had one of the complete kits off me to try out and seemed to get on with them
Well, 2000 miles done in my new 204 dsg, lovely van, but fuel economy is dire Getting around 350 miles to a tank.
Trip 2 is indicating 27 mpg so probably worse in reality.
My old 140 was remapped to 180 by Pendle and I consistently got 34 mpg. The previous 130 again remapped to 170 returned a steady 32 mpg, both were manual transmission.
Even taking into account the DSG I was expecting similar or better fuel economy from the latest van,
Dissapointing really as the rest of the van is a big improvement.
I think you make a fair point....it's a big old lump being propelled along by an engine with an output that wouldn't have shamed a sierra cosworth back in the day?Just a thought. Maybe 204 BHP and good mpg are too much to ask for from this engine in this vehicle.

Now that isn't good. Do you drive it hard.....is it hilly where you live.....are they stop start journey's? I'm getting an average of 37mpg (42mpg according to the fantasy trip comp!?). I deliberately try to hyper mile mine though.I just got 28mpg again in my 150 manual.
Shocking.
That's 28 3 times on the trot, then 30 and now back to 28.
Mine frequently idles at 1000rpm. VW technician told me this was part of the regeneration process. I've often seen 41mpg (actually up to 46) on MFD......but never in reality. 35 to 37mpg seems to be where I'm at.....I am an economical driver though. I suspect 30mpg would be easily "achieved"......anyway, I still love it and don't regret buying it......but reading some of the posts, I'm beginning to think a problem of some sort is just around the corner. FWIW I've done 2300 miles so I would imagine it's still a little tight? Just one thing though........I work my consumption on trip 2. Save me looking in the handbook, what's the difference between 1 and 2? 1 seems to reset more frequently. My 41 mpg days seem a distant memory. It must be the colder weather, or more demand on the electrical stuff. Or regenerating too much, very often it seems to be idling at 1000 rpm. 34.5 mpg was the latest calculation.
