Those VCDS entries are incorrect, they have not been updated for T6s I have scanned dozens of vans and found
H4 = 71
H7 = ?69? (Need more to confirm)
LED = 73
My one was twin H7 and Byte 18 was 69.

Bye 18 is a funny one, the byte is affected by body type and not just headlight type ie there’s one code for PVs and a different one for kombis

Sorry all - new to this forum and about to buy my first t6. I want to get the upgrade done to h7 as soon as possible. My understanding is to buy the 2 headlight units from this excellent forum. But which bulbs are best to get? I want road legal but as bright and as white as possible.

Also would like the DRLs in a whiter light too

Thanks a lot!

Kev

It's a worth while upgrade, I used these bulbs: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EPLCPRG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_RxVsBb4PBMKCZ
They've been brilliant.
I also took the opportunity to change the DRL bulbs before the lights where installed. I used the osram equivalent again as I've found they throw up no errors.
I'm sure you've already read it amongst the thread but just to relliterate you will need access to VCDS to code your van to allow the main and dipped bean to remain on together.
On the forum map anyone with a yellow dot/pin is a VCDS user and will be happy to code it for you.

I used GE Megalight ultra +130 to replace the H7 bulbs after reading some reviews.

For the DRL i used W21W Osram LED bulb as it's quite tight in the bulb housing and some LED bulbs physically won't fit. As Ed says, no bulb warning with these.

582 Osram Long Life LED Retrofit White 12V 7440 W21W Wedge Bulb

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like something I’ll get done straight away!

Just confirm on what @foggy3061 has just linked here these are the exact same bulbs I used for my DRL.

Hi, so am I correct in that these don’t cause a bulb out error on the DRLs on the H7s?

Do you have a photo showing what they look like fitted and lit please?

Need to ditch those warm halogen lights for the DRLs!

Photos are at in the first few pages of this thread.

Ah thanks. Sorry - just wanted to make sure as I’ve gone through loads of different LEDs for my wife’s DRLs and they’ve all either tripped the bulb out display, flashed at high frequency when they’re off, or failed really quickly!

In my experience I've only ever found issues when trying to buy cheap bulbs.
I've learnt to just embrace the cost and go with osram LED. They have never thrown up errors. Never failed and the light emitted is a clean white. I've slowly put Osrams in my interior lights, reverse lights and number plate lights.

I’ll be getting some ordered. They’re such a pain to get to in the H7s that they absolutely have to be reliable!

Thanks!

I agree with Ed! :thumbsup:

I've read too many posts by people complaining about issues arising from using some cheap LEDs to entertain using them! :)

Totally agree. Buy cheap, buy twice! It’s not the cost, just haven’t found any reliable ones! Just ordered the Osrams!

Cheers.

A thanks to @Ed Webb for this thread was a great help, just gone from H4 to H7 myself this morning.

Thanks to @Pauly for the great service from the Forum shop super quick delivery .

Just need to ask a forum member with Vcds to do the coding for me now, but I’m in no rush.

@superflyguy straight forward job, no dramas, hour & half including T break :thumbsup: job done.

Anyone in the wiltshire area be able to do the h4 to h7 headlight swap and put the new bulbs in the DRLs for me? Picking up my van next Saturday and there’s no way I’d attempt it myself!

If you find someone try get someone who has vagcom to change setting and allow dip/high beam on simultaneously when heads are on. This is a huge improvement over standard setting, I'd offer to do it but I'm in Ireland

Thanks Sean. @Absolut5 are just around the corner from me. I’m hoping it’s something they’ll be able to do!
