Heated Front Screen - Is Mine Faulty?

What I noticed with mine is that it doesn't clear instantly, maybe took a good 1/2 minutes to clear the light frost we had last week.

Couldn't wait to it was frosty, as got fed up with my wife driving off, while I was deicing my T5.. now 20 seconds and I'm away... the best part about the T6

We don't have one but we have a remote controlled Esperbacher and Webasto.
Fire them up from inside the house five minutes before leaving, toasty warm, defrosted van with a clear screen.

My windscreen always seems a bit misty, even with the blower set to windscreen and bizarrely when I turn it to windscreen the air con comes on.

You do know that AC warms as well as cools. I leave mine on permanently, in all my cars, I always have done. The gases evaporate if the units aren't used regularly.

I know it certainly strips moisture out of the cabin all year long; didn't know it actually heated the air more than the normal heat exchanger/matrix. I think that is the main difference between Comfort Cooling and full air con. CC just chills the air. Full A/C ships out the moisture; cools/ heats which ever is needed; then blends fresh air with recycled to minimise energy use, yet also ensure there is fresh air.

Tonight for the first time, I tried to use my heated front screen. The windscreen was misted up but the heated front screen had no effect whatsoever! I've consulted the hand book.....and surprise, surprise, it was pretty vague. It just got me thinking.....does it clear mist or for some reason that's beyond me, does it only clear frost? Maybe it's me missing something but my mate with a Mondeo says his clears a misted up screen??????
OR.......has some cretin on the production line not "plumbed" mine in?!!!!!! Any thoughts????
Did you notice if the ventilation fan was running flat out when you engaged de-mist; it should be, or progressively step up as the cabin heats. but not sure if mine does; will have to have a play.

I do now @Scruffy , always thought it was cold air, but the phrase conditioning makes sense in what you say. Will try it tomorrow.

Mine does and clears ice. I am really impressed with mine. It clears anything in seconds. One question is about how clean the inside of your windscreen is. Mine was getting dirty from blower/air con on and wouldn't seem to clear (always seemed misty no matter what I did), now it's clearing properly as I cleaned it the weekend

I'll give it a try.......but I'd have thought it would have to be pretty manky to affect anything......but thanks for the tip.

I did try it today.......no frost on the screen. I noticed that it wouldn't engage stop start with it switched on.......so it's sensing a current draw. If the screen was damaged, I wouldn't have thought it would do that?????

I don't think it does heat the air as such, just strips the moisture out using evaporators and condensers; but could be wrong

No it doesn't heat the air, it works on same principle as rear heated windscreen.

Good frost overnight so had to clear the screen this morning. Engage switch - wait 60 seconds - quick swish of the wipers - turn switch off; simples. The ventilation in the van did not ramp up though?
With van defrosted, attention was turned to my VRS, 5 minutes later with frozen ice covered fingers, was ready to go to work. GRRRRR not fair that I don't get to drive my van every day.

I don't get to drive mine to work every day either. I look out of the window and try to justify why I need to go out. The joys of working from home and when I travel for work it means a plane ride.

Moved north to work for a Yorkshire FS, spent half my life on planes, not been on one for 8 years, love being home for tea

I'm not sure if my Heated Front Screen has ever worked.

It certainly doesn't work as a de mister (like the back heated screen does)

The windcreen is comletely misted up, I switch on the heat & even after 10 mins - nothing.

Is it just there to melt ice or is mine defunct?

With ice and snow and/or moderate amounts of misting our heated screen works well but when we first used our van camping last October, before we got some thermal screens, we would get so much condensation build up overnight that the heated screen would not touch it and, from cold, it took the engine running with blowers full plus the heated screen around 15-20 minutes to clear.
