Heater only working at maximum

So as an update on mine. Went to GSF and picked one up today. Just fitted it, no difference . Going to have to order one off eBay that details it as specific VW to see if that is different. Really annoying as GSF said this was the right part for the van.
So works only at speed 4?

If you have a chance, give the fan and rollers etc a good old clean when rummaging underneath fitting the replacement resistor. The cynic in me suspect that dust/fluff buildup maybe adding to the load

Several T5.1 Heater Blower Thermal resistors available on the web at reasonable prices (£8 TO £25 or so) have just been quoted £60.40 for the T6,: 7e0959263d (they couldn't tell me what the difference was between the D and the C).
Could just be from a different manufacturer, only parts technical would be able to find that out if it is not visually obvious.
That’s why it is best to always get the part from dealer or TPS so if they have updated it, you get the latest version.
ECP and the like buy up the old superseded stock and grind the brand stamp off.
Must put my picoscope on the circuit one day to see what is actually going on.

Yes that is correct, still only working on blower setting 4. Naff all on 1/2/3.
Interesting - the current for all 1/2/3 goes through thermal fuse (on top) and it won't heat up instantly so you should have seen blower working some time even if the fault was the motor drawing excessive current... but if it works without smoking on speed 4

New part arrived from eBay today, fitted, works fine; phew!! So the part from GSF was a load of old pony, despite their claim it was for the correct vehicle. So that one has been returned and refunded.

Hi guys.. new member here... I’ve got a 2016 T6... My blower works on 3 & 4 but not 1 & 2.... Some great info on here, thanks!.... Got a new resistor off eBay.. went to change it this morning.. and the location of it seems different than any videos I can find on here and google.... So I’ve taken the panel below off and the glovebox... The resistor is positioned right behind this piece of plastic... the piece goes underneath and round the side.. I’ve taken the screws off that I can see but still can’t get it off.. Does anyone know the best way to access it? I apologise if the info is already on here

Well it’s failed on mine too, a 67 plate @ 9K miles. Pretty crap and a major common problem throughout the VAG group.
I’m in warranty but reading the history of failures, I’ve decide to purchase 5 thermal fuses on line to repair now and as when....
That's very poor!!

Have you got the part number for the thermal fuses?

Do you just replace them on the original resistor?

I have a 2016 T6 and the resistor has gone twice already

Pretty disappointing and clearly a common & known fault

I have a 67 plate T6 with 19K miles on it and mine has just failed i.e. only working on setting 4 max, very disappointing VW, even more frustrating to find out after reading all of these interesting posts that it‘s a long standing problem that dates back to T5 days and VW have made the same “mistake” again!!! Aren’t we supposed to learn from our mistakes, does anyone at VW read these forums, don’t they care about their reputation? These helpful posts have given me the confidence to go ahead and replace the resistor pack (7E0959263D) with a genuine VW part myself, thanks to everyone that has contributed!

Update to the above post, new resistor module part no. 7E0959263D fitted and working great, do yourself a favour and buy a 5.5mm ratchet spanner before you start, very little room between the heads of the screws and the bulkhead, so much easier!

This forum is brilliant...now in more ways....Heater was only blowing on number 4, by changing the £15 resistor/ thermo fuse holder, I now have all four settings working...and anyone who has tried this before, you are damned right, its tight back there....make sure you have a spanner the right size before you start. I had a 5.5mm...and I still managed to break blood on 2 of my knuckles!! :) stay safe all......

D is the latest version
C shows as a T5 part and D a T6 part but i imagine they are the same
