Help making decision.....

A pal had a 102 (converted to a day-van) and reported that he found it fine. Although I note with interest that when he changed the van recently he went 150. I can report that the 1st / 2nd gearing on the 204 is indeed quite close, but the 6 speed box comes into it's own on decent A roads, and the m/way.

We considered the 150 but reckoned that the marginal cost saving when compared to the 204 was outweighed by the far superior performance, especially with the extra weight of the LWB with a full camper conversion. A lot of our usage also involves carting a fair weight in kayaks and associated kit, on A roads, so as much oomph as we could get seems like a good plan.

That said, when you're stuck behind that 50mph tourist in an underpowered van, or the persistent 48mph car driver, with lots of oncoming traffic, all you can do is enjoy the (slow) drive.

My gut feeling is the 150 but i will see how the week with the fully laden 102 goes. Will be very interesting.

I have a 102ps camper conversion T6 with Pendle map to 160bhp on a Euro 5. I can tell you the van is very comfortable at 70mph and revs at 2400 in 5th Just did 1500 miles to Scotland and back with no trouble. Drives great.

Personally I don't think the point of this thread is whether the 102hp is adequate, but rather that, given the choice, is the 140 or 150 more desirable.

204 dsg 4 motion is desirable!
At this moment im a bit all over the place so any relevant information is welcomed. I always pay up front so i do get a bit analytical with my research and i do try to look at everything from various points of views so that i can make an informed decision based on our needs.

Mines a T30 102ps...its fine, motored up the M6 laden with IKEA furniture the other day at a comfortable 80mph, but depends how you want to drive it I suppose. I'm happy pottering along, have no desire to race anybody at the lights these days...but if you think you'll want that little bit of extra oomph, then go for the 150. My 102 is only 5 speed.

Is 80mph 'pottering along' or breaking the law

That sounds great. I think the 102 will be fine and the £3000 or so saving is tempting. Once we've done our little trip in the hired camper which is the older 1.9 102 then i will have a better idea.
