A pal had a 102 (converted to a day-van) and reported that he found it fine. Although I note with interest that when he changed the van recently he went 150. I can report that the 1st / 2nd gearing on the 204 is indeed quite close, but the 6 speed box comes into it's own on decent A roads, and the m/way.
We considered the 150 but reckoned that the marginal cost saving when compared to the 204 was outweighed by the far superior performance, especially with the extra weight of the LWB with a full camper conversion. A lot of our usage also involves carting a fair weight in kayaks and associated kit, on A roads, so as much oomph as we could get seems like a good plan.
That said, when you're stuck behind that 50mph tourist in an underpowered van, or the persistent 48mph car driver, with lots of oncoming traffic, all you can do is enjoy the (slow) drive.
