looks like a similar problem as this one > Solar Panel; Toast?

basically the solar panel output was dropping off when it heated up.

The conclusion was that there must have been micro cracks on the foil bond wires between the individual solar cells due to the continued expansion/contraction that was causing high resistance or just total failure.

end result was new panel required.

.

got any pics of your solar panel and setup for us Photo Geeks.?

.

Thanks, I have come to the same conclusion, now just got to persuade the manufacturer.IMG_20190825_181821342_HDR.jpg

This has been a very common problem this year. I have been inundated with customers having the same issue. Be careful which solar panels you buy. If possible get recommendations from satisfied users.

. Do you have any recommendations or ones to avoid? PM me if you don't want to post publicly.
Cheers

I have now had confirmation from the manufacturer that the panel is faulty and reading between the lines it is not their first. Further to what @travelvolts alluded to, according to t'internet, it seems more common for flexible panels to suffer this kind of problem with the failures attributed to heat damage, it may also be more common as without a monitoring system like that in the Victron, it is difficult to prove.
I am waiting for their resolution offer but they were trying to persuade me to go down the line of a rigid framed panel but I'm not sure if I can live with the aesthetics of the frame. Decisions, decisions.

Go for an FLPRO, haven't had one fail in three years of selling them.
Martyn I take it the ones listed on your website are FLPRO, then? If so, what does the cable entry / junction box set up look like? I ask as I’ve got a ribbed pop-top roof and assume a gland cable entry would be the best way to go..

The cable exit looks very similar to the one pictured in this thread. Is your van tailgate or wing doors?

Ah i see - junction box on the top side?

It’s a tailgate van with a HiLo pop-top (hinged at the rear). Ring RSCDC30 and Xtreme 110aH battery installed.

You could have one with a rear jct box and cut it into your pop top and then use a roof gland to get through the metal part of the van. Or, you can run the cables down to the rear light and enter through the grommet if you don't fancy drilling more holes in the van body.20171027_150839.jpg
